never had anything but 4-stroke hondas, including dirtbikes! I see a craigs add for an 85 kx250 3-wheeler, wont run but wants to, for parts or fix 300.00. No pics! Its only 20 min from the house so i figure what the hell, I grab 250.00 out of my stash, figuring its probably junk, and if i want i'll offer him the 250. I really have no idea what i'm looking for going in, other than some pics and threads i checked out beforehand. I get there, its like an old auto body shop, and back in the garage is this tecate. Guy says he got it from a customer years ago, as a partialpayment. said he tinkered with it alittle, relaced the reed valves, and thats about it, says the spark seems weak. thats about all I got from him on it. To me, as "green" as i am with tecates, this looked well worth 300.00 running or not. I offer him what I had, he declined, I went to the bank got the 50.00 went back and picked it up!! All new rubber, appears to be newer maier plastic? original seat? everything else appears original "i think". Its obviously missing a few parts, like headlight, chain gaurd, several small fasteners, filter cage?, I do have the airbox cover. Now this will be going on the shelf for now, as i have several things to finish first, but to me it looks like it would be worth saving for a restore. I did kick it over, and it seems to have good compression. So all you kawi experts let me know how i did, what i have, what i might need, and anything else you can think of. enjoy the pics.

Well worth the $300!:beer I am just guessing, but usually when a Tecate has spark problems it is the flywheel and/or stator. jeswinehart on here can fix you up with a flywheel, if that is the problem. And he can also fix you up with a new intake, so you can get rid of the cracked one. Great deal and I don't think it will take alot to get it going. The exhaust hanger that is broke, is just kinda glued on the metal from the factory.

Ya, i new it was a good deal, hopefully it wont take too much to get her going. I am real excited about this, I love the look of this thing, that fat front tire, and stubby stance just look mean!! Thanks monroemike for the manual! Fabio, and kasuki, you guys are probably closest to me on the boards, maybe when I start to get into this thing we can hook up:w00t: Be a hell alot easier with someone who knows about these. I made a promise though, i cant touch it until i button up some other projects. anything else look not OEM on this other than the obvious?

Nice buy man, I just picked up an identical bike and situation (not running) for 500 and thought that was a good deal. It also had weak spark and it was the stator, also make sure the timing marks are in correct position.

Man you guys are making me want to pull this apart right now and get her going. I'm glad the deal was as good as i thought. I already tucked her away for now though. I have to broaden my knowledge of these as I finish some other things. Watch for some pics late night, or in the am of my 350x! I plan on buttoning it up tonight, and taking a few pics.:beer
