I've been asked a number of times about how many Cagiva three wheelers did we make. I had a rough estimate but I decided to go through our shipping and sales invoices to get an accurate number. The numbers were actually lower than I thought.
1984 WMX 125 - 4
1984 WMX 200 - 65
1985 WMX 500 - 2

Cool. I always assumed it was around 25 or so.
Thank you for taking the time to figure that out.
Any Pictures of the 500? HH

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the 125 or the 500. We did use the same fenders on the 125 and 500 as the 200. The 125 looked just like the 200 except it had a gray seat and swingarm.

All I can say is WOW. I'm fortunate enough to actually own one of these ( or what's left of it ). I knew the numbers would be low. But I had no idea that a 125 or 500 existed. Thanks alot for the info.

Yeah, if you want to pm me your serial number #9h-00xxxx I can see who originally purchased it. Most of them were sold to our 25 dealers. It was really just taking off when we had to shut it down.

I'm not sure how the Cagiva dirt bike serial translates into the build number. The 9H might be involved too. But it's possible.

Hey tricky,
Not to turn this into a new thread, but I have some questions if you don't mind. Why did you start building trikes? How did you come up with a design, and how hard was it? Do you have any pics of the shop or pics of bikes you could share? Did you keep one for yourself? What did you do after the trike building stopped? Thanks for your time. And i'm glad to see another legend on the boards!!

My dad had a Yamaha R5 back in '81 and came across this ad in 3-Wheeling magazine for a kit to turn it into a three wheeler. He thought that was pretty cool. So he called Dick Hodges of Tricky Dick's in Barstow, CA to purchase a kit. Dick had put the business on hold because his daughter was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. We were farmers at the time but times were tough and one of our hired-hands happened to be a machinist. So the next day my dad called Dick back and asked if he be interested in selling the business. He said he would, so my dad drove to Barstow, bought Tricky Dick's and loaded up all the equipment and machinery. We always had dirt bikes around and I had been racing motocross. So it was exciting to start our own shop. I was probably 12 at the time.
Our kits were pretty primitive at first, but evolved over time as we built more. My dad pretty much came up with the designs. We probably had about 6-8 guys working for us in the shop at its peak. My dad got into selling insurance after the shop closed and has done it since. I'm a Network Consultant for the University of Missouri.
The only trike we kept was the first one conversion we built. It was a Yamaha RD350. Here's a pic of it with one of our machinists.

I actually had two Cagiva's back in the day but sold them like an idiot. But I've since located a couple that I'm getting ready to restore. I'll post some pics at another time. I also have some pics of the old shop but I still have to scan them. We actually still own the building. So it has a lot of memories. Here's a thinner version of my dad :) at a show in CA with a Cagiva. It was the one that dad showed to Cagiva at their headquarters and then sold it to Peter Lupus from Mission Impossible.

I hope I've been able to answer questions.

Great pics. I wonder if Lupus still has that machine.

Nothing there but pure shine!!!
From the craftsmanship of the triples i really do not see anyone taking time to stamp, scribe or mark anything in them. Not knocking Tricky Dick since this was a purpose built machine.

It's actually still in very nice shape. Looks just about the same except the wheels and tires are gone and some of the chrome needs redone. It's basically been sitting in the shop since '85.
