Both of my boys (5 and 8) have really want to build something over winter.. So here's what we decided.
1st project - 1984 ATC 70
Rebuilding a 1984 ATC 70 for my 5 yr old for a surprize for christmas.. My older son came up with idea so this is an after hours project on Friday and Saturday nights. All new bearings.. Probably gonna go to a Lifan electric start auto engine for now.. he is so small no need for gears.
2 project - SL 70 TRike build
This is gonna be for fun..
Using a sl 70 frame and forks..
Blaster rear axle and carrier
Will have to go with custom triple trees once the rest is done.
Here are the pics before:

Got the SL70 all stripped down and put the ATC 70 engine in the frame to find correct axle placement.
I got the blaster rear axle and carrier for free.. Went to take it apart and one nut took over an hour with a 4 ft pipe wrench and a sledge hammer.. not fun.. Second nut is frozen solid though.. Gonna have to heat it up or split the nut and take it off.
Started laying the parts on the bench.. Looks like the rear sprocket will be perfect if I mount sprocket on the inside of the sprocket hub.. This should give me an equal axle length on both sides. This should be a little beefier rear axle for me..
Still measuring everything exactly out before I make the jig for the swing arm. It will be made out of 1"x2" .125 steel box tubing..
Looks like my biggest issue if finding the correct matching sprocket sizes...Need a 420 or a 428 rear socket for a blaster... of a 520 sprocket for the engine..
Here are a couple pics of it apart and up on the bench..

With the rear axle just setting behind it... Trying to get an idea of swing arm length.. Looks like its going to be between 20"-24" total length to the back of the carrier..

It's a project I started 1 year ago but finally I never continue, but I have keep this fork for futur project.

Do you have pics from the side.. Are those SL70 forks or the rv90 forks

Fork are from the rv90,I think the sl70 tube diameter is smaller

Is there any way you can measure the fork diameter for me.. I really would prefer to use the SL70 forks..
AS for the progress.. Got the swing arm tacked up.. Have to slide the axle in and make sure everything is straight once bolted on the frame. Looks pretty good. Will get pics later this evening.

well the list gets longer I guess. Just went and traded some VW parts for a 83 ATC 110 and a 78 ATC 90.. 110 looks great but needs spark plug hole repaired. The 90 is in Ok shape.. Just needs a coil to fire up, But it has newer fender and seat on it.. It doesn't latch properly.

Got the swing arm tacked.. Put it back on bike and measure everything out.. Less then a 1/32" off the end of the axle.. I tried to keep it one piece of tubing from front to rear so that may mounting the shock a little hard but still doable. I need to figure out what shock to use just yet so I can make the mounting points for it. Also need to layout some gussets around the weak areas plus some cross bars.
Ran out of shielding gas just as I was about to add a few more tacks.. So that calls it quit for the night.
Here are some pics. Of what I have so far.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to mount the rear shock. I am thinking about using a 200x rear shock just because I have one I can take off of my other bike for mockup.

Can you use a Blaster shock?? Cheap, easy to find an no resevoir.....

I just measured the rear shock of the 200x.. Man that thing will look huge on a little bike like this.. I have a brand new performance MINI atv shock sitting on the shelf.. Its only 10 1/2 inches long... Looks good size wise but may not have enough travel. Wanted to get it welded up this week so I can start finish welding by the weekend and ready to go onto the next area on the frame.

Oh yeah I forgot to add.. Also got a rear blaster shock.. As well as some 1977 Suzuki RV90 triple trees which should fit the sl70 forks. Will post pics as soon as they come from Canada.

My entire family has been sick off and on since we started this.. Its sitting on the bench.. Rear swingarm is almost done but may change it around a little now. It does sit as a roller once I put the back axle on. I will try and do that next weekend and get pics.
