Riding on around on an 84 Big Red when it died. Pushed it home and checked for spark and got nothing. Tried a known good coil, cdi, and checked power and grounds with a multi meter. Checked the voltage out of the stator and got 20 something volts. I looked in the manual I got and it didn't help any. I came to believe that it is the stator. Any other thoughts?
Anyone know a test for the stator or know if that since it is putting out 20 volts that it is good?

Thanks,
Josh

From the manual.

So I need to check the resistance to see if it is in the specified 100-400 ohms

Thanks Mike,
Josh

It was the stator. Gotta get a replacement one and get her going again

Glad you figured it out.

Well, replaced the stator and it was running for a few days.
Now I think the cdi box went. It has no spark and everything else checks out good.

Sucks, don't it?

The es is actually my friends. We just went and bought some more 3 wheelers today. Then The math kicked in. We have 10 Honda atcs and only one runs.

The one that runs is my 85 200s

yup my CDI also went here esterday in my 200es. My manual says that the cdi from a 85 200m is the same pin config. but the box is a different size, and when its plugged in the electric start wont work and the reverse light stays on permanently...... lol, no good....

Hmm. What about an 84 200m? We almost got an 85 200s one to work by removing a pin that doesn't do anything on it. Got the electric start to work but no spark. I have an 84 200m that I just got for parts. I am not sure if it the cdi or not though

my new 200 es bigred had spark and now it doesn't

Haven't ridden it yet so dont want to take the whole thing apart to discover the gearbox or engine is toasted.

Cant we just pretend the stator is good with an alternate 12 volt power supply?

it's not a timed voltage surge is it?
or just low amperage 12 volts to feed the cdi and pulse coil?

can anyone help me with an 1980 Tri Moto 125 issue
