I will first fill you with my story... I am a 28 year old guy, grew up with a father that didnt fish or hunt... As I get older I fish quite a bit, and took up deer hunting last year with a buddy... Got all my goodies, deerstand, new blaze orange, and a Savage 110 7mm rem mag to boot... So my first day in the stand, I am getting situtated (hungover) and see a doe aways out... I figure first day, I will let her go... 15 minutes later, another doe walks by me 20 feet to the right of my stand... I will let her go... Well, right behind her is a 6 point buck, who manages to stand 90 degrees from my stand (20-25 feet away) and I cant shoot him with my 7mm... Got a massive trailpro tree in the way! So this year is gearing up, and dang it all, I am gonna carry my side arm into the woods with me! If I would have had it last year, I could have had that 6pt! So my question is, what gun and what round would be best suited for a close range shot at a deer? .40 S&W, wadcutter or hollowpoint, or my .45 GAP Glock, wad cutter or hollowpoint? Any insite is appreciated... I doubt to be put in the same situation this year, but...

Either would do the job. I like to carry a 357 with me. I put a finishing shot in the head of a doe with a .32 and it was lights out last year.

I prefer the Ruger Blackhawk in .44mag.
