I have owned this bike since i was 13. I was saving for a 88 250r, but my dad brought this home one day. It was 1991, the bike was in perfect shape, he got it for 1800.00, made me give him 800.00. I rode it for the next 12 years, some more than others. 5-6 years ago i tore it down to the frame and went through everything. During the project I bought a house, had a kid, then started buying trikes:p . I havnt touched this project in 5 years other than to move it to the new house, it sits about 75% complete, have had all the parts. Motor is still on the stock bore. It was starting to smoke a touch if I remember correctly, but i wont get in to the top end just yet. I hope to be back to this project in about a week.

I had a Honda 600 back in the 80's, I think mine was a XL. Never should have sold it.
That's a big bike for a 13 year old.

ya, i was alittle intimidated at first, I went from an 87xr80 to a 600, quite a jump, but once i got used to it, and realized I could kick it over no problem, I was the envy of the neighborhood:lol:  Thought I was hot trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro!! Guess my dad didnt want to keep upgrading every few years.

Good that your putting the stock muffler back on (although it is heavy) as those cobras are just way too loud.
Once your done rebuilding it be sure and post some nice pictures of it outside, it's a good looking bike and actually mine is the same bike, just with the street bike garbage added on and ES.
This is a 94 XR650L ......

thats a sweet bike huffa! YA, i ran it with the cobra for quite a few years, never ran as good. I happened to score this stocker off ebay a few years back, not sure what happened to my original. The 88-91 are unique in the headpipes are two seperate pipes. I was thinking of making mine into a dual sport, but not sure yet!!

Love the bike,it deffinatly look's like you got a major jump on it ~ Now just finish it up.The motor in the MDR600X trike I built is ready for a complete top-end rebuild. It's been smoking worse and worse all summer long until I eventually ended up breaking a exhaust spring. This is the 2nd time with differant head's now that I've had to rebuild the head's,and I alway's have exhaust side issue's too. It's a good thing though cuz now I'll have a spare 600 top-end on the bench for those just in case time's.Mine is an '87 and pretty much the same..Keep up the work and keep us post'd with some more pic's.
