my buddy just picked i pretty nice 85 70. she was running a little rough. i cleaned the carb cause the guy said it was sitting for a while and there was alot of crud in there. there was and then she was running pretty well.then he said he shut her off at night went out the next morning to ride it to work and she wouldnt fire up. its getting spark and gas.is there any possible way the timing might have jumped or anything. anything else i might be missing this is the first 70 i have messed with.any help will be greatyl appreciated thanks in advance.

Honestly, I find the ATC70 set of points and carb to be a pain in the arse. The larger displacement Honda's seem to run on anything even after 10 years under a cow.......

Is the tank clean inside?? Clean it with some muriatic acid, clean the petcock and screens and inlets. Then run an inline filter if you can't get it SPOTLESS!!

Stupid 2 hose 70's, IDK what that crap is about! 1 hose and a vented cap would be chicken!!

Many metal tanks are very rusty.... Clean the carb, 5 minutes later it's plugged again without an inline filter...............

Clean da tank! and carb by removing all the jets (don't lose anything!!), make sure it has a clean air filter and clean/sandpaper the points (or replace them - don't go to BETTENCOURTS!! - and adjust the gap and dwell.

If you get a carb kit and need to remove the fuel/airscrew - Make a mark, BARELY and LIGHTLY bottom that screw and count the revolutions (such as 1.3 turns in). Now turn it all the way out, don't lose the spring, oring and maybe 2 washers an octopus or whatever else which may reside within there.....

thanks man the tank is actually very very clean there is really not any rust. way cleaner than my 200x tanks. would it still not fire if the points were dirty but it had good spark?? how do you set the gap on them? thanks again
