I have 2 sleeves that are Nikasiled. Is it overkill to have the pistons ceramic coated?
does this ceramic coating not change the inner diameter of the sleeve and the outer diameter of the piston?

never heard of anyone ceremic coating the sleeve, but as far as nikasil on the piston it should only be on the skirt from what i know anyways and should not be anywhere near thick enough to cause clearance issues.

You got it backwards.
As far as ceramic coating you piston..
Probably overkill, but sometimes you cannot be too careful.

On my ATC 250R I'm using a stock CR250R cylinder, which is nikasil plated, and I've had the last couple pistons coated. The coatings are a bit pricey, just about the same price as the Wiseco piston itself, but cut down on friction. They coat the skirts of the piston with a SDF (Solid Dry Film) coating that reduces friction, and then a TBC (Thermal Barrier Coating) on the piston crown that resists heat. You don't need to take the coating into account when getting a new piston. Whatever size piston your bore needs, that's what size piston you get whether you plan on coating it or not. It's a very thin coating.

turbo....http://www.swaintech.com/
had may pistons done! oh and FYI $55 for the skirts coated, and more for the gold coat on the dome
I have ran pistons for two years,, HARD! and the coating is barely wore off!,,,it would have had all them little ware marks in the piston if not..actually after 2 years the skirts of the piston Never touched the cylinder..tough stuff

Where do you get stuff nikasiled? Whats it cost? does the cylinder need to be bored first? Cool site about the piston coatings, I want to do mine now

the ceramic coatings on the piston and combustion chamber act as insulation against heat and allow you to run leaner mixtures, higher compression and maybe more timing. it will make more power than if the same pieces were just polished.

I ran my triz 490 on alky so lean.. it would have melted the piston by the exhaust in a second..I had the gold coating on it and it never touched it..it did turn the gold to a dark gold
