Okay now I have been out of the trike loop for quite some time now, but it seems i have been thrust back into it =] It has an extended frame and custom swingarm. It will definitely need plastics and a silencer, but man am I excited, I thought I wouldn't have a trike anymore being that I have the engine in my car to rebuild as well, I'm only 17 and I have two major projects with no money xD

Well here it is, a little rough but I have had worse =] and for 300 dollars this is a steal. I also threw in some pictures of my 1978 Pontiac Phoenix, it is a 4 bolt main chevy 350 that I am fully rebuilding this winter.
As for the tecate I am hopefully getting it today or tomorrow, I am so exctied, I was just starting to miss riding after selling all my bikes and now I get one without even trying

I am really torn, it looks like a "rare" piece. But it also looks like it would be very awkward to ride with that frame. It also looks like it might have an extended axle on it. I'm not quite sure why, but I have a funny feeling it is a valuable piece of racing history. Hopefully someone can recognize it and tell us some history on it. Definately couldn't beat it for the price.:w00t:

Very COOL !!!!! and what a deal much better than an X-BOX. I'd find out everything I could about it. Talk to the old owner if you can and see if they have any pics of it in it's GLORY DAYS. Restore it and keep it, thats a great piece of history. If you don't have the funds for the rebuild now stick-it away in a corner for awhile till you get the $$$$. Don't SELL IT you will regret it later. It's very rare that a 17yearold gets a deal like this so KEEP IT!!!! If not I'm sure there's a few T-3 guys who'd love to have it . But I'd keep it, it's gotta be a blast on the ice.

Looks like a slightly modified Franks swingarm, judging by the "lay down" link mount. So, Calvin Franks did make altered custom frames as well. Just wondering out loud.....:wondering

Wow is this thing really that valuable? I would love to keep it but something tells me I shouldnt. as much as I would regret it this bike has alot of power, I have no where local to ride (i have a trailer but no truck) and I would probably start riding on the roads which could get me in trouble. I want to try and fix what I can and ride it a little bit, but I dont think I will keep it, for those of you who have shown interest PM me on what you think is a fair price. This bike would be in much better hands of one of you guys, someone who can restore it and enjoy it. Plus right now I need to finish my car, I cant afford one project let alone two. I explored the ATV scene, I rode, I fixed and I crashed, now I think its best for me to focus on cars until I have more money =] Sorry for the rant haha

Well if it's like that I'll give you 2 X-boxes and an old Atari. Seems like you wanted it then as intress grew it's 4/S you should of said you wanted to sell it from the start. In the condition it's in $700 maybe $800 tops. If you really want the $$$$ for it part it out and get the most you can. But you should really restore and keep it. Oh you be young and .......

Thanks for the advice guys, Yeah I mean I really do want it, but at the same time I know how I am, it is so much temptation. All it takes is one false move and that trike is done for, be it impound, crash, or me getting seriously hurt. Not that I worry about getting hurt, but it is alot of power, something I have never experienced before. Yeah it could stay in my garage, but not having my car, i am gunna want to start and drive/ride something. I do need the money, I thought this bike was only worth a couple hundred dollars, for that much it doesnt benefit me to sell it, but if its worth more this is the big break I have been waiting for, I have been trying to make money for a while now everytime I get close to the magic thousand bucks i need for my car and then something comes up. I have done alot of wheelin and dealin: I fixed a motorcycle to pay for my car, I traded my quad for a dirtbike which I traded for a ps3, which I was going to sell but then decided to keep. i was about to trade the 360 for a limo (long story) and then I was offered the trike.

Well to tell you the truth, in its current condition your looking at under a grand or maybe a little over $600. Yes it has goodies on but in what condition are they in? If your not into atv's anymore more, I would let a collector or if not someone with money take it off you hands. $800-$1000 is a still a great increase on what you have into it. If you really want to test its market value, throw it on ebay and see where it goes however, ebay get 3% of the over all value... In today's market I would not get to excited.

I think 1000 dollars is what I'll aim for, whether it is worth that much now, or it takes time to get it there, until it is worth that to someone i'll hold onto it, i'll always love atvs, but I just cant dump cash into them right now. ive never fully stuck with a project and if i keep this trike ill have to get rid of my car or put it on hold. It costs about 1000 bucks to fully rebuild it and possibly stroke it, and the sooner I can achieve that dream, the sooner I can move on to the next one =]

When you get it in your hands take lots of pictures... I'm curious to see if the shock is stock or aftermarket. I would love close up pics of the swinger and frame. Look for identifying marks, proof, of what it is, and who might have made it. I am also curious to see how the fuel tank mounts. I too agree with T3 LOPES that it is probably one of Franks frame and swingers. Whatever it is its one of the coolest bits of history I have seen for the Tecate in a long time.

Something just doesn't seem right here. I know the scrap guys around here don't crush complete trikes, four-wheelers or dirtbikes, they always put them off to the side. For one they are made of so many different types of metal. Kinda like crushing a 1971 Hemi Cuda, I think I'll go puke now.:( :(

I dont buy it this thing will appear in the future, someone save the pics. Either someone found out what they had, or someone else knew what another guy had. How many people have 'scrap metal' laying around their yard and have the landlord pay someone to clean it up just before winter? I'm not sold yet, but to be honest i was thinking of offering stupid money for it before i read all of the posts. I guess someone beat me to it.
Plus i've never traded anything including stuff for cash without receiving what was owed to me in the trade before i gave them my end of the bargain. I think the story is a little fishy...

I have a very sad story guys ='[,
Whether you chose to believe its truth or not, I could hardly believe it myself.
Yesterday the guy selling me the trike (who is my friend, not just some craigslist seller) told me he was having a bad day and couldnt drop the trike off.
Today he told me why he had a bad day.
"Well my landlord was doing some cleaning, this guy had a ton of scrap metal, and I was away at work, my wife who just had some medication prescribed has been home sleeping during the day. The guys doing the scrap metal took the bikes assuming they were scrap. I called around all day finding out where they went. Today i got an answer. They have been crushed, the went right from the back of the truck into the crusher. My landlord offered to reimburse me based on what my bill of sale stated, but stupid me for tax reasons I put down on the bill of sale less than what I payed for the bikes. They are gone, I am so sorry"
I can't believe my luck, here I am thinking I found the easy way out of building my car and it was taken so easily. Not only am I out a rare trike, which would have been awesome to have regardless of getting money for it, but I also never called back all the people that offered me cash for my xbox. Back to square one. it sucks, I never saw the trike, and I told everyone about it and now its gone.
Hey man,
Lesson learned---don't give up your stuff until you have his stuff! I got beat on a few car deals years ago--Handshake, gave a depost and "I'll meet you at the Notary @ 9 AM". While at the notary, I call to find out where said party is and I got "Sorry, I got a dude that came by last night and offered me more for the car!"---I've got that twice. Now when I make a deal--All CASH, and the CHIT leaves with me, and if I don't have the room I'll make it. Home Depot rents trucks for $19.99 to customers (buy a 2X4X12) and rent the truck, pick up the trike, drop the trike and lumber off at your place! Anyone can afford that for a rental.
Sorry to hear about the loss--but I still agree with the others---someone's got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
honda_atc200es
11-09-2009, 10:06 PM
yeah, i wouldn't be surprised if someone stole it, and I didnt lose anything in this deal, I wish I knew about it sooner but he told me about it only a day before they were taken from him, the same day I posted on this site about the trike I offered to him that I would go pick it up because I thought maybe he was having troubles at home. I would like to look around his neighborhood and try and find these bikes.
I mean, think about this scenario: Scrap metal next door and bikes stolen, yeah you assume someone scrapped them but it is just as easy for someone to have stolen them, my friend didn't personally see the scrap pile, he just told the company about what happened and they told him what they do with scrap loads, Ill have to double check with him if the scrap yard specifically mentioned scrapping the trikes, that will be the real deciding factor

11-09-2009, 11:20 PM
I noticed one problem the with who now really owns the trike, the landlord. If the landlord or his agents took it by mistake then offered to reimburse for your property loss, you have entered into an out-of-court settlement for the dispute. Therefore, you have no more dispute, ever.
You should have called the cops when your property was stolen, then went and looked for it.
you could have turned a profit by selling the rear axle setup alone.
nd4speed
11-09-2009, 11:59 PM
Still does not change the law regarding your friend settling out-of-court for the property loss with the one who claimed to have taken the property.
The old example is the neighbors kid throws a baseball through your window. Usually your neighbor settles out of court and pays for the window. If you were required by law to go to court, then the courts would be even more clogged with petty cases. The cops would recognize there is no case and it would never even reach the prosecutor. Same goes for the civil side. Judge: "did you lose your property because of the defendant?". Yes. Judge: "did the defendant pay you for the property you lost to him ?". Yes. Judge, "Then why are we here?" I want my property back. Judge: "the defendant claims it is gone, and that is why he reimbursed you for the amount of money you asked for." Case closed.
You basically can steal or destroy someone's property and then hand them some cash to avoid prosecution. You could even admit you committed the crime to the cop that shows up. Trust me I have seen it done more than once.

It seems to me this is a young kid who had a chance at a cool ride. But this story was fishy from the start. He seemed to "WANT" the bike in the 1st post. Then how much to fix. On the 3rd he was hinting he wanted to sell with the question "HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH". In every post he says "my freind has it or is having a bad day, but I can't wait to get it". Meaning he never "owned" it as of yet. My theroy is like any of us who list a trike on CRAIGSLIST get two or three offers for X-BOXES,RC cars, and Paint-ball crap. Maybe he tried this, jumped the gun to make a quick flip and told us he "HAD IT". Read the post and timeline and it's really hard to understand how he's changed his mind in a matter of an hour. Theres just too much info on the buddy's wife too, pills knocked her out. Landlord who lives at the house or next door and is just tossing sh!t out. Unless your getting evicted the landlord cannot remove any of the renters property. It's agianst the law and the landlord knows it.
I bet if you search Craigslist in his area you'll find the bike.Even if you ask if anyone was selling it at on time you'll get an anwser.
I'm not trying to be MEAN but who else thinks if the kid would of gave him cash he'd have the bike???

no, he'd have the bike if he actually went and got it the same day he traded. Why should he care if he had already traded for the 360 and the new owner still hasn't picked it up. Funny thing is I have seen people on here post big threads about how they want this bike and they almost have enough and someone(usually from this site) goes and buys it from under there nose. Oh and they post a new thread about the same bike. If you are dumb enough to post pics and brag about how you are going to get this bike and your local, I would not think twice from buying that bike.

Scrap is a pile of SCRAP, not something on 3 wheels that ANYONE would consider worth something......
IDK where they went but that is one messed up story; I scrap or (use too) scrap all the time. The only stuff that gets crushed is cars and trucks AFTER the oil and other fluids are drained and the tires and gas tank are removed.
There isn't s "3 wheeler or quad crushing machine" at the half dozen scrap yards I've been to.............................

Well there has been a few times that something was posted before a member got it and was taken, even by another member on here. Now that is totally wrong in my book of ethics. But you also dont show tons of pics of a nice or rare vehicle that you dont have yet, as there is a chance that could happen. I hope that your friend didnt do you wrong, but money makes people evil, esp when they see big dollar signs.
Exactly the reason I was very vague when asking questions about the Tecate I found (and got BTW) in Montana... Still even then there was someone chomping at the bit the week before I got there to pick it up. Luckily the gentleman stuck to the deal he had made with me.

this cracks me up!!
That trike never got scrapped! haha and even if somebody was dumb enough to bring it there the workers would have that puppy set aside and one of them woulda taken it home.
you should have sealed that deal sooner instead of comtemplating what to do with it, and how you may hurt yourself with it,but how you still want it.. blah blah etc. etc.
Your friend sold it to somebody else for more is my guess. That black one posted does have alot of similarities.

Hey, whoever just gave me negative feed back you dont have to read this thread, like i said when I first mentioned the incident, if you dont believe it i dont blame you, just dont complain about it. Not everything is fake in life. As for my friend pulling one over on me, maybe he did, but I doubt it. There is not much more point to this thread unless by some miracle someone finds the bike.
Well, by some miracle someone found the trike. Maybe your friend should contact the seller on craigslist and make a visit with the police. It was taken from his property without his permission right? I would just hate to see your friend, or you, get taken advantage of.

The bike is $1300 in one listing and $1000 in another? Listed on the same day even. It would be interesting if someone here can go check it out to see if they can get the full story. The tank does have a decent looking graphic on it though:

Who knows what else he has/had. If you Google the phone numbers in the ads, you can get some results that he has a Yamaha 4moto, an ATC70, a Kawasaki KE175, and who knows what else. I've also found three different phone numbers to get a hold of him in all the different ads I found.

check out the exhaust pipe on both pics. sticking way out like that. they remounted everything, spray bombed it, and put it back up forsale.
So if it was truely taken without consent from your friend I would have him call the cops for sure. But I think he may have just sold it on ya. Or you fabricated alot of this story...
edit: i see everything i said was already mentioned! lol, atleast we all can agree its the same trike.

Regardless of the drama, if I had the money and it was a bit closer I would be all over this. I still believe it is a rare piece. hello
just my two cents, i have seen good 200x and notso good 185s even saw a 70 along with a very nice gocart and many other things of value on the scrap pile. to some people all metal is scrap. my local scrap yard comes across a lot of very good stuff you would not believe the snow mobiles i see scraped for the aluminum bodies and motors, so i believe the part where some one may have wanted to throw them to scrap.
if you want to see what people are scraping out drive around your town on trash night. i do and you would not believe what ive found

Hey, I couldn't help but see all the interest in the extended frame flat track 1984-5 tecate, but it's not the only one out there. There's a youtube video called ( Kawasaki Tecate Parts ) by maxgarnica that also has an extended tecate frame in it at 0:36(it's an 86 though), it's extended by the gas tank and handlebar area too. Also, it has a plate that looks to be welded on with 2 bolt holes in it in the rear of the frame. I wonder if this frame and the 84-5 have similarities between them in regards to the mods that were done?
a stock frame? LOL
And he says "Or maybe just stock" and he puts a picture of that frame in there. LOL
