When I had my big red's top end apart, I remember spinning the rings with my hands, while they were still on the piston. I didnt change them. Now I remember that they have to be alligned correctly. How should they be alligned?, so I can go back and fix them.

There is really no way to line them up. A good rule of thumb though is to not line split part of the rings up with the others. It can cause scoring in the cylinder wall. I always turn each ring 1/3 turn from the other so that doesnt happen.

I wouldnt be worrying too much if I remember where I left them after turning them, but im going to have to check it out anyway. Thanks for the advice!

Shouldnt be much a problem to pop the jug back up and check. They are probably ok if you were just spinning them freely but it wont hurt to check.

I have the jug tightened on, but not real tight or torqued, I hope I wont ruin my head / or base gasket in the process.

There's a diagram on page 7-6 of the service manual, if you have one.

It shouldnt bother your gaskets. They havent had time to "seal" from the engine heat. Just be careful not to rip your base gasket.

i like to align them up the following:
hole piston in hand (if possible) with the intake towards you. rotate the op ring to the exhaust side center. rotate the middel ring to the intake side center.
on the oil (bottom set) ring. there are 2. rotate the top one to one piston pin and the other to the opposite side of the pin.

this will ensure nothign is alinged and it seals proeprly.

okay, this is sounding more easy to me the more feedback I get. I thought I would have had to buy new gaskets because of my preschool mistake :lol: thanks alot guys I appreciate it
