i gotta drain the gas its old..and get a new plug..but i manged to take it for a couple laps around the yard and she ran and idle fine..she just keeps fouling out..also it took a lil bit to get started but after she warmed up she ran great till the plug went again...by the tank the sticker says run 20 to 1..is the still a good ratio?

Yamaha_Rules69
11-12-2009, 07:58 PM
20:1 is REALLY rich. Most people run 32:1, its the middle margin between rich and lean, and I have always had great results. Nice tri Z, and let us know how she runs when you get it tuned up.

posty2100
11-12-2009, 09:55 PM
20:1 is for leaded gas, now a days its all unleaded gas so you run a leaner mix

code200k
11-12-2009, 10:22 PM
so 32:1 would be good?

Russell 350X

I run ams oil interceptor in all my two strokes at 40:1 love it burns really really clean and never had any issues.
Belray is also really good and what i run if i cant find ams, but a little bit pricer.
Klotz and caster are really good oil also but from what ive heard dont burn nearly as clean.

ATC-Eric
11-16-2009, 11:39 AM
Dont know about the snowmobile stuff. I run Klotz Technaplate, awesome tasty smelling stuff at 32:1.

Also for plugs, hit your local oreilys, or autozone. The same plugs you buy at the Yamaha dealer for $5, you can get at the auto parts store for $2. B8ES.

Looks nice, and one helluva price!

code200k
11-16-2009, 03:35 PM
it is called klotz technaplate.for "snowmobile motros for cold weather performance" and i changed the plug and it is running better now..only other problem is i cant decided if i wanna run the crappy shrouds and front fender or the clean un cracked one's..

Just un bolt the whole carrier and axle and take it to any machine shop with a press. That is the beauty of a Tri-Z. It is easy to remove the whole axle and carrier to install in a press.
They will press the axle out for about $30-$45 bucks.
Using heat on hardened axle parts is a bad idea if you want to re-use them. The heat will make them brittle and weak if not applied correctly.

Tri-Z 250
01-04-2010, 10:50 AM
If it's never been off...You may need to heat it to a cherry red and use a punch/chissel or a pipe wrench with a pipe over the handel(leverage) extention to break it lose. Frist try to soak it in BLASTER, or a penatrating oil from your local Parts store. I've had to waste more than one stock lock nut in my life beating and heating to a saws-all removal. It's a replaceable part...don't feel bad. I never liked the stock setup much anyway.

EXACTLY!

If you take it to a shop they most likely damage the end of the axle pressing it out. Unless they really care about your stuff and make a sleeve to protect the axle end. If they do then you'll be about $150 deep in that project. Get it cherry. Knock it apart. Unless your doing knarly MX that axle will probably suit you fine. If you want. Get a used one on ebay. they sell dirt cheap. You can even get a new G-force banshee axle for about $175 bucks.

i have acsess to a press but not until the weekends like wise with a set of good torches as of now the carrier and all is of the tri z...im guessing this is the first time that these bearings are being replaced.when i bought it the guy never mentioned anything about them.until the weekend ill just keep squirting it with kroil and wd 40 if i run outta kroil and try to get the sprocket hub off.

Don't even waste your time with WD40 on this project. You'd be better off taking a piss on it. Kroil is good stuff though. If it runs out and you want to try something else, try Thrust (http://www.castlepackspower.com/Catalog/ShopChems/thrust.html) or Sea Foam's Deep Creep (http://www.seafoamsales.com/deep-creep/index.html). As someone mentioned before, unless you can get it red hot, it's not going to do much good. Good luck.

pretty mutch you float needle stuck open,, and you piston was in the down stroke... and the gas that was in your tank is now in your pipe.. I hope thats your case...if it is you will learn to A. replace the float needle, OR, B. learn to turn the petcock off...lol.. ..OR ,,,C... break out the wallet for a $100 piston and a $60 bore.. oh and dont put that crap in a 2 stroke,,, its not moveing for a reason.. and Buy some GOOD OIL!

Thorpe

Best guess is to pull the motor... Wondering if bending the shift shaft is causing your gears not to mesh correctly... (backlash for a lack of a better term)

thats what i was thinking i just wanted to see if anybody had a idea before i went tearing everything down..

01-25-2010, 05:13 PM
As long as the case isnt cracked or distorted from the chain throwing, where the shift shaft goes in, you can just pull the clutch cover and replace the shift shaft and seal in the frame.
If the shaft is bent, it will bind up in the case when you try to shift it.Hence why it doesnt shift easy.
If the case is cracked or bent, then you will have to replace the left side case half.

code200k
01-25-2010, 08:54 PM

Mosh how abouts do i get the clutch cover off while in the frame? to me it looks like i have to pull the motor to do so? or am i looking in the wrong place

Mosh
02-16-2010, 03:32 PM
No it comes off in the frame.
Just remove the right side foot peg and bracket assembly and kicker and kicker shaft cover, drain the coolant and oil.
Be careful, there is a hidden bolt under the kicker shaft cover, and also be careful to not drop the shims for the kicker gears, and there is a waterpump washer that may fall out too.

go to
www.yamaha-motor.com
Look up the 86 Z parts schematic. That will help you see what is under the clutch cover.
You also have to remove the Clutch basket to get the shifter shaft out.
If you dont have one yet, get a manual. There is a decent amount of work and adjustments involved that the manual will help you do.
You will also need new kicker cover gasket and clutch cover gasket.RTV wont work.

code200k
02-16-2010, 03:45 PM
