anybody have a built up honda 200? I just got a 200s and i am looking for a good engine combo for reliable power... cams, carb, compression, etc... is a xr200 cam an upgrade?

As always, it depends on what king of money you want to put into it. If I was going to build another 200 I would go with the following....

- XR200 cam (the dual carb model they have for 2 years doesn't work)
- 10.25:1 wiesco piston
- XR carb.
- Good exhaust (brand could be cost driven but the stock one is very restrictive)
- drill the air box lid
- Uni foam filter (I prefer foam filters over paper for my riding environment)
- new gaskets and valve seals

- clutch plates and shifter return springs and usually a good idea at this time too

Most importantly remember to jet it correctly!

You can do more but remember, at the end you still have a 200s.

thanks fox... this sounds like about what I am lookin for..any particular year xr200 donor to use? i can get an older dual shock model for $20 with a bad trans... any muffler recommendation? i dont want it to get obnoxiously loud, but i realize flow is very important on a four stroke. I can build a headpipe, what is a good diameter tubing to use? i have access to a bender with 1.25" dies

haha. i know what you're saying. This thing is pretty ballsy already, but I just cant leave anything alone.. a couple of my buddies just got 200's also and I want to have just a lil more than them...

I hear the early XR200 is better then the XR200R. They changed the profile slightly for emisions reasons and now if you order a new XR200 cam you will get the replacment XR200R one. I would pick up that XR!

I'm not sure on exhaust sizes, hopefully someone else with more fab experiance will chime in. I have run a cobra pipe on a 200s, it was a little louder but not too bad, it was thin and rusted quickly but I guess that what you get when you buy the cheapest pipe out there. I have read that the Bassani is loud but good, DG is good and a little quieter then the Bassani, and SuperTrapp is good and not too loud, I haven't heard much about the Jardin but they are usualy along the same lines as a Cobra. The Bassain or Supertrapp are discontinued but still out there used.

I understand that, my zinger is apart now and it is not going together in stock form for that same reason...

If you can locate a bassani they are awesome.
