Have the recoil on an '82 disassembled and those parts are not there. I am having a hard time getting the rope to recoil so I was wondering if this is part of the problem. Any help would be appreciated I'm getting tired of jump starting it.

Here is a diagram of a 200s pull starter. What part are you asking about?

After fixing 50 of them you get to where you don't even think about it. It nomally takes 30 minutes to rebuild one. This is including installing the big spring. lol They are a piece of cake.

15 & 20 on the diagram. It is the same as the '82 185S. I have a '81 which doesn't have these parts. I have taken the thing apart a ton and have replaced the big spring, throwout springs, pulley, ratchets, washers and clips so that's not a problem. My '81 will work on the '82, but not vice versa. I'm stumped. When I pull the rope when it's not attached to the wheeler it recoils fine, the springs and ratchets work.

The decompression parts. Those can be a pain to get in correctly. I have only put a few together over many years. That is the one part that takes the most time for me. I haven't done enough of them to be able to explain it.
I have seen many machines that those parts were removed and the decompression was done manually. It's a option for you.
Maybe someone else can explain the correct instalation.

Ok. Thanks for the help. I was just gonna not worry about it, but wanted to cross it off the list of why I can't get the thing to work.
