frame painting ideas??

I stripped my 250ES so I can camo wrap all my plastic. now I need to paint(black) the red of the front forks. I am going to simple green and pressure wash everything really well and would like to paint the frame and racks while am at it. this is a utility trike that sees alot of mud and tree limbs and all the elemets...whats the most durable black paint without poweder coating??/? thanks in advance

if you want a real heavy duty type paint have you looked into truck bed coatings? You could probably have it rhinolined fairly cheap or the roll on stuff works well if you do the proper prep work.

for my skidplate, swingarm, kicker, and footpegs i used undercoating...works pretty good

I like using brake caliper paint for cars.. Its works great and is chemical resistant. You can even get some that have a clear coat as well.. Put a couple coats on with some clear and its hard to beat.

I used to use PJ1 frame paint.. that stuff was great for Motorcycle frames, but they don't sell it locally anymore.

may cost more then you want to spend but whatever!

I had some that was left over since 05 and it was still good in the can, I brushed a little 110 rack and some other parts with it

Powdercoating is the way to go. Never chips. The only way you can get it off is sandblast it or torch it.... And thats even hard to do.

sayin powder coating wont chip is not true.. it will.. just not as easy as paint... if your gonna paint it... prep good.. and use a good paint... or a epoxy paint.. i know advance auto parts carrys vht poxy paint... super strong... and no need for a seperate primer... or bed linder.... if your doing it at home you can get duplicolor spray on bed liner.. or go to wallmart and pick up a gallon of bed liner.. i think they carry hurculiner or rhinoliner..

for a project like yours I would go the bed liner route. it sounds like its going to take a beating here and there.
if you want to go cheep O
spray can it and keep an extra one around for the occasional touch up.

if you are going to spray can it and want it to be a little stronger than the average spray can job.
prep it by washing it good and getting any grease off it.
use a scotch pad to scuff the surface.
clean the surface again and make sure it is completely dry.
then spray a light skim coat and let it flash 3-7 min depending on humidity, temp,etc then spray a heavier coat over it
if a 3rd coat is needed remember to let it flash before you spray it
finally hit it again 3-7 days after (forgot exactly how many days?)

if you want to have to repaint your frame after your first hard ride than go ahead and paint it.. take the extra time to have it powdercoated. The shop i own charges about $150-$175 to prep and PC a atv frame. save your money and have it done locally. it towers over any paint or rhino lining!

vht makes a good epoxy paint... its the same stuff used on car struts, and suspension parts.. its tough stuff and holds up good

what about engine paint, is it more durable ??? this camo vinyl wrapping of my big red fenders is kicking my butt, I am almost at a point where I will pay someone!!!

engine paint will hold up better to gas and oil... so it may be a good option for your if you spill gas fillin up or you have oild leaks or anyhting like that..

if you prep well paint will hold up good.. enamal paints are more durable than people thing ( not all of us can afford powder coating or professionally sprayed bed liner) prep good, clean good and paint, along with a engine enamal clear it will be more durable than most people think, and let it cure for 7 days before you put it to use

Duplicolor spray on bed liner, in a aerosol can... Thats how I did the racks on my BR and they turned out awesome... Easy to do too...
