84 200ES battery question

Do I need to have a battery hooked up in the trike to start it with the pull starter? Ive got a weak so so spark, but the plug is used, Im going to pickup a plug monday, but I was wondering if I need to have a battery hooked up, or will it start like say a 200S without the batt? thank. jim

It'll run fine with no battery although the lights will not be as good.

no need for a battery,get a new plug and try that.if the spark is still week you can close the gap a little.

just tried the plug, not even a poof. I pulled the plug and yanked on the pull start. Got a nice hot spark. Tried starting fluid and still no go. I think my arm is about to fall off. I think im going to buy a battery and give my arm a break. jim

IT'S ALIVEEEEEEEEEE.......
I think it was the key switch, I pulled the plug and pulled the cord. I get exactly 1 spark and that was it. I would switch the key position and get 1 more spark and after switching the key each time, it would spark and quit. After doing this about 30 or 50 times, the green neutral light would glow and then I started getting constant spark. I put the plug in and viola! she runs. Now I just have to figure if the 10 inch rim and tire that came with it will fit. or just buy 1 new front tire. And since im in it, may as well put a battery in it and see if the electric start works. jim

i ust used a red top car batery to test out the starter on my 84 200ES, wouldnt happen to have a spare CDI???? lol

went to wally world tonight and got a battery. charged it up and it starts right up! lights work and all. Now I just have to find a front tire for the darn thing.
