early present from my wife. Was gonna get the new dual voltage setup they have, but figured this would be fine for a start. I am gonna be using the crap uota this so hopefully it holds up fine. I got quite a few projects to do. So all you PC pros, i will probably have a lot of questions in the begginning, so any help is appreciated. I have a full size oven also, and a blaster, so i should be in buisiness!! I cant wait to give this a try.. Excited to be able to put a good finish on my parts! First ?'s- can you use any brand powder in the eastwood setup? is there a preferd powder other than eastwood?

Sweet. I've been contemplating on buying one of those cheapo harbor freight units for 69$ to do a few parts on my rebuild. Im thinking i would probably never use it again after though and can get them professionaly pc'd for the same price. Im also lost without an oven to use. WHo knows maybe ill get an itch and get it anyways. Let me know how yours works out.

Nice, I've been looking into getting one of these kits from eastwood also but signing up for the free catalog is as far as ive gotten so far. Maybe I'll decide to get it for this winters re-build of the RM to use as a guinnea pig. Let us know how it works out for ya.

Eastwood makes good stuff. I have been using their "Hot Coat" powder for about 6 months now and like it. I just use a "CHEAP" Craftsman powder gun and it works fine but, I was tinking about that kit you have.
You may be able to have it done cheap (if you have a shop thats close that does P C'ing) but, I LOVE doing stuff for myself.
ENJOY!!!!

Dude that's great, I use the EW set-up as well. Did she get you an easy bake oven as well (the toaster oven to the right)??? If she did, she did you good! Your never going to be in the house again with the PC:lol: If you need any empty bottles let me know I have about 200 or so, I'll just have to scare up some caps. I scoop from the supply and put into a "gun cup", then when I'm done I cap the "gun cup" off and mark what it is on the outside color and part number. It's too much to keep cleaning cups to switch color. Deffinitely usefull when you get a 2 LB load of color. We did a pharmaceutical job about 2 years ago and I kept a load of "clean" bottles with the intentions of getting into powder. So if ya need a few give me a shout.

yes the toaster oven goes with it:beer Wondering, this oven has the convection feature with the fan. Does this work better when curing the powder, or should i just use the standard settings? thanks for the extra cup offer, I will certainly hit you up for those once I start to accumulate colors. How long does the powder last when stored properly? I still have to get a few things before i get started. I need a water seperater/filter for my compressor, and i thought i read that acetone is good for wiping down the parts after blasting, rather than buying eastwoods prep stuff. I dont want to have to buy anything thats really not necesary, if there is a cheaper, more readily available alternative. I read through the handbook, lots of good info, but also still leaves alot of ?'s.

AWESOME!! Love Eastwood and Columbia, but they are higher cost wise.
From here ON, go to absolutepowdercoatings.com for your hooks, tape and plugs - VERY INEXPENSIVE!! , powder etc. It is sold in 2lb boxes CHEAP. The red is what I have used......
Look behind restaurants for those wire racks that are SS or chrome plated. I have a 2 tier shelf rack.
And of course your free full size oven on Craigslist......
I keep the powder indoors, well sealed and in a large tupperware.
I get acetone at Homie D - 1 gallon, about 14$
Use ANY brand powder you wish
My powder is about 1.5 years old, some 3 months old.
Remember too that anything you have ever seen me posted coated, I used silica sand 00 grade in the cabinet. Thats Deepa's motor too.....
The water seperator seems to work best further down the line, like right at the blast cab. Or run your hose to one on a wall, then the gun and a shorty from that. Thats just me though....................

Alot of guys who build bigger ovens use a convection fan do evenly distribute the heat. Can't hurt I guess. If you don't already have a full size oven you can do like DC said troll CL for one. All the cheap a$$es around me want $$$$$ for their old ovens, so I visited a "local" applicance store and got the pick of the litter out back for free! Guy was even cool enough to say if it dies out bring it back and leave that one and take another!:w00t:
As far as powder life---don't know I keep mine sealed tight in the bottles and then put into a large zip loc bag. Don't worry you'll burn thru it!!!
I also use an inline moisture trap that goes on the end of the gun just to catch anything else.
Acetone is what I use for wipe down. Eastwood even has that on some of their powder coat prep procedures.

thanks for the info guys. I already have a oven i snagged for free off craigslist 5 months ago in anticipation! I just have to figure out where to set up shop. My new shed is kinda small for all the stuff. Might set up in my basement. or my dads garage. thats where the big compressor is for blasting anyway. we'll see!
