I recently had a hub come loose on my big red 250, it ground the splines down on the hub to where it would not even catch, and I had no power to my left rear wheel. The splines on the axle looked okay, so I just purchased a new hub for it. I slipped the hub over the axle, and there is a very slight bit of play when it is just sitting on the splines, not tightened down or anything. Will this become a problem and should I buy a new axle also? I'd rathar not and I feel that if I get it tightened up good enough it should be fine, but Id also not like to ruin my hub again just to take the easy way out. It is just a very very small amount, but it still worries me, so any suggestions would be great! thanks!

If you got the hub cheap, I'd get some a brass shim stock kit, fill it in and run it.....

Just realize you will need a hub and xle someday if those spines are that bad.

A brass shim kit? Haha sorry I'm not sure what that is, could you explain it?

Just some flat sheets of "shim stock" from .001 - .015 or so....

Maybe a pack of 15 pieces, from paper sheet size to smaller squares/rectangles.

Some things need to be shimmed tight, generally not splines but flat surfaces.

The thinner pieces can be cut with scissors and forced into the sloppy areas by angling the shim as you pound the hub on :D

Thicker pieces you can use snips.

Hey, you asked.....

Some times I'd rather ride while I buy and not miss out. Your not gonna damage anything else unless it's very bad.

A very small aamount of pay isnt gonna hurt anything, just tighten the hub nut up good

a little play is fine, keep your axle nuts tight and the splines well greased.the axle nut is like 60-80 lbs.[torque]

Yea, its not a whole bunch of play, you can twist it a little bit thats it, I think I'll just tighten it up and see what happens
