Things have a way of working out! After that guy screwed me out of the TRX70, 2 days later I came across this!! guy said make him an offer! I offered him 250.00 he said come get it!! Hasnt been registered since 92. This guy got it from original owner, he said he let his buddy use it to teach his kid to ride, dude brought it back and said he busted the pull rope. hasnt moved since!! looks great, tank is a little faded, tires are shot. Inside the tank is spotless. Fix pull cord, and clean carb, and i'm sure it will fire right up. Is there a way to start these without the pullstart. I want to try to get it going for christmas. I no nothing about these, but it looks simple enough. Whats the cheapest place for tires? Let me know what else you see that may need addressing. Brakes and bearings seem great! Enjoy the pics.

Appears someone rode through some paint at some point. a few spatters here and there, should come off with some effort.

I got Kenda Scorpians for mine, but they are alittle pricey... Innova makes some that are almost an exact match to stock for $27.95ea. You can get them from your local dealer if they deal with Advantage Performance. I work for Advantage out here in WA as an outside sales rep. If your dealer doesnt its easy to get set up just have them go to www.orderapd.com and print the dealer app and send it in. Nice find btw!

nice find. you don't see the 85 seat in that condition very often any more.

to start without the pull start you can wrap a rope around the metal cage that the recoil catches on, or you can have a person push you in neutral and then put it into first once you get enough speed

my buddy puts it in gear and gives the wheel a spin and his 70 fire right up.

11-23-2009, 08:01 PM
If you put it gear put dont release the shifter. Have someone push you. Once you are moving quick enough release the shifter. Those 70 pullstarts are easy to fix. You can rerope one in 5 min or less. As long as the spring is not broken.
By the way thats a very nice 70.

thanks for the congrats! Crazyman, thats quite the 70 stable you got!! Good thing is they dont take up much room! Thanks for the hints on starting. I have to remove the pullstart cover, and see how it looks. I have to find a pull start handle!! Thanks Mike for the manual!! I'm gonna mess with it a bit when I get out of work tonight. Do you take the rims apart to get the tires off, or do they pop off like a regular tire? never delt with hte split rim set-up!

CRAZY70MAN
11-23-2009, 09:52 PM
rims are split with rubber o-ring. You may need lots of dishsop and water to soak and break the beads. I wirewheel the rim bead and the entire center of both rims. Check for burrs as well and gouges on o ring mating surface. I always use some rtv silicone on center oring. Let it tack a bit......clean o-ring with blaster and a rag and let it sit for a while. Seat tire on one side of rim with lots of soap and water, your gasket facing up at you on bottom rim. Align top rim carefully making sure it is centered. Tighten evenly. Blow er' on with no air chuck too seat the bead......good luck

I'd check at your local Honda shop for original Ohtsu tires. Should be around $23-28 each. The original Ohtsu's are the best all round tire.

I dont get why people say to put it in a high gear to push start things. Wont the engine spin faster in first than it would in 3rd at the same speed? Maybe it's less stress on the trans once you pop it in gear at speed?

I just built the freaking thing!! I really couldnt have made it much bigger where it sits. I built it right between my house and the only neibor I have. Now in the fall and winter I dont have to look at there house when Im out back:w00t: . Keep in mind its just a SHED! I saved the larger spot out back for the GARAGE in the future:w00t: Thanks for the link racer guy. I'll give em a look. This is the last trike for awhile I hope:lol: I gotta finish some of these. Problem is I enjoy looking, and when you look, you find deals you cant pass up!!

I have found the non- genuine tires for the 70 are way too hard because of the ply. In mud and sand they dig in and spin not to mention the harsh ride. With the ohtsu's, it is a much softer ride and go thru the soft stuff really well. They only after market tire that came close was a 16 x 8 x 7 Kenda 275 but I don't think they are made any more.

Awesome find, looks very original. Seats in that condition are hard to come across. I think you can still get the original Ohtsu rear tires for the 70. Check bike bandit or Service Honda. I couldn't believe it but I even saw a new pair on the tire rack at my local dealer. Here's by 70... :beer

thats an awsome 85 beerside, sucker looks like it was purchased this year!! Didnt realize the seats were that rare. Is it because the foam itself is so thick and the amount of compression just wears the cover and foam faster? Its not perfect, but its nice. The seat has one broken stud in the front, which is weird, because all the other hardware is still gold anodized.:wondering the top has a very slight fade, and its missing a few threads here and there, but its not coming apart anywere. recoil just needs a new rope and handle, carb is clogged solid. I'll post some pics later this morning some time.

nice find, I just sold my 1982 honda atc70 that sat in a garage the past 26 years, had very low hours as yours and I was able to clean the carburator out but take my advice and buy new jets! even after soaking in cleaner and using compressed air they were clogged solid. Honda dealer happened to have them in stock.

Yes it will spin faster. Ever tried push starting something in 1st gear? The strain it takes to keep it turning is crazy. Thats why most people use 2nd or 3rd as the gearing reduces the "Umph" to get it going. And it turns the engine over plenty fast still to start it. Its like trying to ride uphill on a 10speed in your highest gear.

Thats a realy good score!! If the tires dont have too big of cracks you could just tube them, if the tube aint gonna hang out of the cracks.. That is if this is for the kids, the real kids not the big kids that is. My sons 70 see's more seat time from me after a few beers than my son. Ive got a few tires mounted on 70 rims if your interested and depending on how far you are from 13424 to save on shipping.. Freaks

Dude!! Your less than 2 hrs down I-90 from me. Thats pretty cool. We should try to get together for a ride, if you have any spots. Riding out this way sucks! I would be more than happy to make the drive. I took the tires off the rims today and chucked them. they had rot cracks 5 inches long, right through the tire. What type of tires you got, and what might you want for em? new/used? Looks like you got a crap load of 70's from your sig!!

it's repalce that carb. it's fuel that corruded the allow int he carb housing and it;'s not goign to work correctly even after rebuild.
you can get on ebay and get a good chinese reman for decent pricing. $35 shipped most cases)

as stated just pull the eclip, take the plastic off and point it to the correct neutral direction.

do a compression test too while your at it. and if yuou got the tools a leak down test. this will tell you if there's ring and valve issues or not w/o tearing it appart.

as you can tell by the date of the thread this got pushed back a bit to say the least!! i honestly just wanted to wait till my powder coating was set up so i could do it up real nice. Its looking like its still gonna be a bit before that happens, so i just figured id get this running and spruced up a bit so my kid can ride it!! he could of been on it all summer if i wasnt such a slacker! Lol. dont look all that bad anyway.
So i finally got the broken exhaust stud out, and the pull start rebuilt. the stud was a prick, i welded a nut on, but it kept turning off the stud eventually, i did that 3 times, heat the al, tapped it with a brass hammer, basically just kept at it. finally i just welded a good glob right on the stud and locked some vise grips on there, lots of smoking penetrant, and it finaly budged!! the decals on the pull start were still allright, so i just masked them, and gave it a quick, but proper spray job. first one i ever rebuilt, the hardest part was that damn small spring you have to hook to the retaining cover! It will be cool to bang this out before christmas. hopefully i dont run into any snags.

It sucks that the atc70 carbs choke levers are so prone to breaking. Plus that little cap that covers the spring always falls off and gets lost.

been real busy on the 70 the past week or so. going right down to the wire. didnt go to crazy with paint, cause its all coming apart again for powder. every part was taken off and cleaned in kerosene, greased, and reassembled. i did paint a few things like forks, pipe, and brake drum cover that i banged some dents out of. i am waiting on pads? hopefully they are here tomorow. gotta finish cleaning in the tank a bit, mount the muffler, wheels, and plastics. gonna hit the pegs with a little paint. add some fluids, and hopefully she fires up!
