Hey Guys,
I bought a frankentrike that was literally a pile of parts in my truck for $100 and I have been able get it all put together and running great. Frame is a 1880 185, 185s tank and a 1983 suspension front end. I have it all put back together from info I have found here but I have finally come to one piece I can't figure out - so I'm asking the experts.
Can you tell me what rear brake this is - I need to swap the pads. My issue is that the guy before me trashed the outside cover and the only way to get it off is to cut it at which point I will need to get a new one and it is unlike any I have seen. Anybody know what this is off of.
I have a call into a guy with a whole new hub, but I would rather just replace the outer cover on this one if I can cut off the cover and get a new one to put back on.
Thanks

Okay, My question is why do you have to cut it off? I see both of those nuts there that would have to come off first and that should let you Take that drum off and get to the shoes. I can tell you for sure that it's nor atc110 rear brake drum and it's not an 1982 atc185s brake drum. I don't see any reason as to why you have to cut anything apart or off. Please explain and maybe we can help you better. I can tell you those 2 nuts are tightened against each other and they will have to be broken loose first before they can be removed. Also if I remember correctly, that they are threaded on backwards so righty loosey, lefty tighty. The right rear wheel hub isn't welded on is it? If the hub is welded on, then that is the real problem you have to deal with, not cutting up the brake cover or brake drum. You have me a little confused on this one.

The lock nuts aren't the issue. I have already had the lock nuts off and the cover is fused on the axle so it needs to be cut off. I have tried heat and pb blaster in the past and the thing is on there but I don't thing it is welded.
The guy that owned it before me tried too with the same results only he tore up the cover when he did it.

I have a whole hub from I think an 81 ATC 200 that you can have for shipping if you want it.

Will an 81 200 rear brake/hub fit my bike? If so that would be great.
Also - I see people selling 185 and 185s rear brake/hub setups and I have no idea what mine would actually be since it has some original 185 parts as well as some 185s parts. How do I know which hub would work?

A 200x rear wheel hub will fit as well as atc70 rear hubs and atc90 and atc110 hubs, so you are not limited by hubs. You need to get those bolts back off and you need to put the hub nut on flush with the axle. You need to soak that brake drum with several different penetrants. Nutz Off, Aerokroil, Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, Even try dot 3 brake fluid. You need to make sure you fully release the brake shoes as the shoes tend to wear down the drum which leaves a lip on the drum that the brake shoes will barely make it past. Then you may want to try the heat method and while a friend applies heat, try smacking a piece of 2x4 over the hub bolt and axle with a sledge hammer or 5 lb maul. If you don't have the brake lines disconnected and the brake hub adjusted all the way as far as you can, you may be fighting that also. It will come off. Try striking a large punch at the base of the drum after you take the nuts off. Drive the drum towards the frame as you strike the punch with a hammer, you are just trying to loosen up any possible rust. Don't give up.

That is not a "cover", it's your brake drum.
That's either 1980 185 or a 1981 200 brake assembly. I assume the former, from your info.
Look at this to see what you are dealing with.
