Ok, I got a 89 kx250 from a friend last year because he owed me money, The front forks needed to be rebuilt because they were shot.
Bought fork seals for what the forks were supposedly off of, and they werent...
Bought the right forks for the set-up, and they were the wrong OD.
Bought a front end off a supposed 90 kx 125, and It isnt, of course...
So, is there any way to identify what forks i have, I'm in need of a front brake caliper, so i can stop.

post a pick, 89 was the 1st year for inverted forks, if they are convential forks they are 88's. frame was the same 88-89. or they could be off a 98-04 kx500.

you got 1988 forks then. i bet your bikes a 1988 not 89, or its got a 90 frame on it. check your vin on the frame and engine.

Well.....that's news to me. This whole time I thought I had an '89, but it has conventional forks.....let me re-figure this.

hmm i looked at bikebandit.com and they show convential forks for the 125/250/500.

1990 was 1st year. but i see alot of 89's and 88's on the net with USD forks. they must be swaping kx500 on them

These are 89 forks because they are 43 mm instead of 88's 38 mm

Well, I know that they are 43 mm forks and whether or not they are kx 250, is debatable, but i can't get a brake set up for them.

And what kind of grease should i put on the bearings when i put the triple trees back on?

bearing grease haha. i use silkoline red grease for everything i do. it does not get all nasty and black like tar when it ages...and its red!

any dealer should have it.

According to the parts fisch on two sites, '89 had conventional forks and 1990 changed to upside down.

Um both my 1986 Kx250s have 43mm forks with seals- 43x55x10.5

I believe 1985-1989 forks are all conventional 43mm.

Not even my 1984 had 38mm, thats like pre 1986 3 wheeler or small bike forks

The front brake from 1983-1989 is probably all the same. I put 84 brake on my 86.
