I've finally started breaking down my 350X tonight, and as I go I'm sure I'll have 100 questions so I'll just use this same thread throughout the process....first question, is there a trick to this footpeg bolt? I'm trying to get it out and I bet I'm torquing it 70 pounds in reverse, and although it's coming it just seems to get tighter the more I unscrew it.

just hope it dont break. spray PB blaster or some other lube on it, and when you turn it out, turn it back in a few times and back and forth to really loosen it up. Its a major pain when bolts break off and your build will go alot more smooth if they dont. good luck!

just keep going back and forth with lots of penetrating oil. you may be able to add some heat to the frame but it may not help in this application. i would bet that the threads are gulled up. after you get it out you may need to have a helicoil installed in that hole. i would also get a set of factory bolts to put back in it. i am a big fan of factory bolts for foot pegs. i would also try some Kroil. it is a penetrating oil that will blow PB blaster out of the water. it is hard to find.

Yep you called it...it broke.

Oh well, it had a broken bolt in the grab bar anyway, looks like the machine shop gets two to fix.

Do you have a welder?? Just weld a nut onto the broken bolt, after you weld on it spray it with some Blaster. Always works well for me.

Well, the 350X took a time of rest in my garage this summer (too much motorcycle riding and not enough wrenching). I got to the point I am pulling the engine and I can't get this long bolt out....am I missing a trick to get it done? Firm tapping with a ballpeen hammer won't budge it, and a breaker bar will move it maybe 1mm each way (without REALLY putting some effort into it). You can see that spacer is broken and I wonder if the bolt itself is somehow bent in there.

My spacers were trashed too when I pulled my 350x motor... I got a complete set off of ebay. Firm tapping is how I got mine out, just don't break the casting on the motor!
