ok guys, I am at a loss here. I pulled the clutch cover off and everything was fine. I out it back on and you can feel the clutch engaging and disengaging, but when it's in gear, the clutch will not release the tires to spin. any thoughts? the tires will onyl turn freely when in N. if it's in gear they don't even with the clutch pulled in. I'm thinking I may have to pull it apart and replace the clutch assembly all together.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious...

Fibers stuck to the steels

Steels warped

Out of adjustment enough that it disengages some, but not enough.

I'm a little confused- Are you saying that when the bike is running it works OK but you can't roll the bike while it's not running, the bike is in gear, and the clutch is pulled in?

If you are saying you can't roll it while it's not running, it's in gear, and the clutch is pulled in, then that's no big deal. I have never been able to roll my Tecate when the engine's off and it's in gear. The clutch drags too much. The clutch on my Tecate actually drags quite a bit when the engine is cold. Once it's warmed up it works just fine.

Just to add to the plot. What if you can't pull your clutch lever to disengage the clutch? Changed the oild and now I have intermintent ability to disengage my clutch to shift gears.

Am still searching threads for info.

Check your actuator arm, the thing on the case the cable attaches too. I went through the same thing the last week. I ran the livvin pi$$ out of my bike and parked it. Jumped on it and started it to warm up, rolled it out by hand, jumped on it and killed it.... so in gear i rolled it back with the clutch lever engaged and no roll!?!?! So i had never had any problem with my clutch and got the answers about; warped steels, worn cable, rod and ball worn, ect.
So i tore it compleatly apart and replaced everything with a awsome looking basket and center gear, new plates springs and steels, rod and new ball, handlever, cable, actuator arm and spring, everything. it still stuck! errr. I also tried the trx fancy lifter rod and ball replacement. I took the cover off and made sure that my cable was adjusted. - there is a correct way to do this: With the plates and disks in the bike take out the springs and nuts. Hold the pressure plate on with you hand and adjust the cable untill it just pushes against your hand. This means the slack is taken out of the actuator arm- rod- ball- mushrom cap thing- and pressure plate. Then back of a little to prevent wear. then put the springs back in and see that the pressure plate moves out at least 3mm, i only say 3mm cuz thats what the three working bikes i have measured were
What worked: I put the bike up on blocks, back wheels of the ground and secure, and warmed my bike up in neutral. Then while running hard shifted in to 1st, maybe 2nd, and got the bike ideling. then i pulled in the clutch lever and applied the brake, the motor started to die then i gave it a bit of throttle and when i let off the bike was running and the tires were stopped. Hurray!! A old guy that worked on Triumphs told me to do this.
