The stock forks on my 86 Z are not that great. I would like the front end to be more plush. Any options?

I have heard of people doing 85 / 86 250r front end swaps. You'll need the entire front end though.
what about a new set of springs from Progressive. They are not that much $.

yeah, I've seen the progressive springs for sale on the DK site. What is the Goldvalve kit?

The actual Gold Valves are for cartridge type forks only. I have the Gold valve emulators in my 250R forks. They do work...but they take some extensive tuning with the spring rates on the valves, the spring tension on the valves, etc. You also have to trim the springs a little bit shorter because they act as a spacer between the top of the dampening rod and the springs, and you'll have way too much preload if you dont shorten up the springs. Atleast, thats how it was on mine.

I would go with progressive springs and different weight fork oil.

I agree, progressive suspension fork springs and a heavier fork oil, good results with about $100 in cost.

Heads up, you can very often get progressive springs brand new on ebay for fifty bucks. The trick is to look up the progressive part number (not the retailer part number) and search ebay for that number. I haven't looked in a while but I could always find a power seller with them listed for cheap but without any indication what machines they fit. ;)

Hey, thanks for the tip! I have them in my 86 200X and paid about $70 for them. They work awesome. I hope I can find a deal on e-bay because I want a set for my tri-z.

I just check the PS factory website to get the part number for them and they want $92 factory direct for them....I might buy them from DK if they sell them for $75.

I would go with progressive springs and different weight fork oil.
I think this is the idea I'm leaning toward. Fairly cheap too. Thanks for the info guys.

DK is actually cheaper than ebay right now. $65.
The Progressive part number for the 86 Z and 85-86 R is 111127 by the way.
111117 fits 83-84 250r, 85-86 350x and 85 Tri-Z.

The '86 Z forks are actually pretty good. Springs and oil weight (as you've been advised) should make you like 'em more.
