View Full Version : ITP Trike Circus at Bundy Hill April 10th

I have been toying with the idea of having an event for trikes at Bundy Hill. It blows their minds every time a small group of us show up there, so I figured a full out trike invasion was in order for this place. The owner told me that he hasn't seen so many 3 wheelers in one place since the late 80s and he really enjoys having us there.
I had a chance to talk to the owner about us having an event up there and he was really happy about the idea and said he would help any way he could. I asked him if he could build us a 300' dragstrip:naughty: and he said that he wanted to do that anyways. They already have some wooded trails so instead of an MX race we could do a gncc style woods race:naughty: And there are plenty of places to have a hill climb competition. I was thinking that we could do it in like April or early May kind of like a warm up test/tune for trikefest.
Any thoughts?

It's a long ways away, but as of now, count me in :) . I'll know more when you set a date. Is the park better for a 350x or a nice crawler like a 250sx?

As long as it is not as hot as this last years Trikefest. The park sounds like a good place to have it.
Once a date is set......Ill be there.

After much discussion we have come up with a date for our event at Bundy Hill. The date for the ITP TRIKE CIRCUS is set for April 10, 2010 Rain or Shine! Everyone is invited and we will make more decisions as time passes. We are in the works with the folks at Bundy Hill for their help in setting up areas for our events. We are also working on setting up deals for lodging for out of towners. I think that early April will be too chilly for camping but there are many camping areas near the riding park for that option. We are very excited about this event and any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.
We are planning on having the following events:
1) Drag races
2) Oval Race
3) GNCC type woods race
4) Timed Hill climb race
5) Wheelie contest
We are planning on having some type of awards for all events.
Any feedback or ideas are welcomed and if you could volunteer any help it would be appreciated. Thanks Rich

Yes, I was thinking that it was an awfull lot myself for 1 day. Maybe we should take a poll on what events to hold? If there isn't a huge turnout I think that we can make all of this happen though. I don't know, what does everyone else think? What events should stay and what should be cut. Myself I like the hill climb race and the wheelie contest should be fun too. All contests can be a run what you brung type event with no real class seperations. That would make it easier and faster.
Is this sounding interesting, any more ideas? I need peoples input here..........

Rich, their first ride is April 10th. I know alot of us usually hit this ride. They only schedule 3 a year. I would love to make your ride. Mabey next time. You need to make it out here with us for one of these rides. We usually hit the first and the last ones.

I am really bummed here. There just isn't enough time in a year for us to fit in all of these events. I wanted to avoid any schedule conflicts but that seems to be mission impossible.
I have Smith Road plans for May. June is TRIKEFEST. July is Smith Road again. August is Rose city with Sandpuppie, Then back to Smith Road Labor Day. October wouldn't work for my Farmer Buddies up here. April seemed like the only chance for me to host something and I thought it would give us a chance to blow out the cobwebs and de-bug before the action really got started. We will see what develops in the coming months, maybe we can't pull this one off quite the way we would like to' but I don't think we should scrap the idea.
Heck no. Dont scrap her. What about late April early May??

Later in April or May wouldn't work for many of the ITP members because they are farmers and that would be into their planting.
I am attending a Bundy Hill forum meeting tonight to discuss plans for this event. I need opinions and ideas on what you guys want for this event

Please let me know if these will not be allowed, may have to bring something normal.......... The pancherello 160....lol lol and the big red maybe????? I hope not. Any height and or size requirement on flags??? Did not say in the rules??? Are we allowed to camp there???? Fires??? etc..... I see beer is prohibited as well.

Admission to the park is $15 per rider. I will be talking to the owner and trying to get us a break on that. I'll let you know how that works out.
The noise restrictions is something that they just started. They had to do it to please the neighbors and to get zoning passed. They will not be testing as you come thru the gates, it is up to the people that patrol the place. If they hear you buzzing around and they think that you are too loud than they will test you. 94db is pretty high but I am curious about it myself whether some of my stuff will pass. I think that I will be heading up there next week maybe I will take along my 450 and see if it passes. It's pretty loud and if it passes than you may be ok. Just bring what you want with some quiet backup if needed. Even if you brought your big red to ride you will have fun at this place, and with the people that will be there.

There is no height requirements on flags, but it should be above your head I guess. They don't check flag hieghts as long as you have one. They do rent flags there for $5 with $10 deposit.
I will take a burn barrel if needed for heat to keep warm by. Camping is not allowed at the park, but there is campgrounds nearby and a motel also. I am trying to get the ph. numbers and rates for these places and will post them really soon.
Beer and alcoholic beverages are not allowed. They do check your coolers for this and it will be confiscated. I have seen this happen and they don't give it back when you leave. The good side of this is that there isn't a bunch of garbage littering the trails and riding areas, and the people operating vehicles and such aren't beligerant and unsafe. It really saves the park a lot of trouble and it makes sense on their part.
If you have any more questions just ask. Here is a link to the park for more info also:

A 250R with pipe and silencer in need of re-packing will sit around 96-98 db( right Mr Swinehart) .
I'm not sure if a fresh re-pack would get you down to that required level or not. Sounds like it may be a rule they need to post to get the zoning but enforcement is a spotty thing.

Anybody that wants to help out please do. This is gonna be some friendly competitions and should be a lot of fun. I talked with the owner of Bundy Hill today and he is giving us full support. I will be going there next weekend to pick out some areas to hold these events. Now as for the events. They do not currently have a drag strip, but are putting one in right away. They say that it will be done by April let's keep our fingers crossed. They do not have an oval track set up but they do have enough open space where we can set something up to race on. They do not have an MX track but are putting one in also expected to be done shortly. We are just winging it here folks. So the conditions might not be perfect and a lot of this event is gonna be what we make of it. I see it like this, give a couple guys a place to play and they will find a way to turn it into a competition.
I will be providing lunch (hot dogs, chips, and pop). if anybody else would like to bring anything to share or help me with those items that would be great. Also if any of you guys have ez up canopys to bring that would be great, besides what's a circus without some tents lol. Rich

1pm off to the oval track and commence racing.
3pm Hill climb Race
5pm Drag Racing followed directly by the wheelie contest

I am not sure about a prize table, it kind of slipped my mind. How would it work?
I have put the word out all over about this event and I expect more people than what is on the list here at 3ww.

Can do! At Roger's ride, folks will often bring up one item each (something that you'd like to win). Ross & I usually look for things on a good sale and try to keep it under $20 each, often we can find a great deal under $10. Then he uses tickets and everyone gets one at the end and you just do a draw with the first person getting their favourite prize, this way too, you don't have to win your race to win a prize.
Some times folks donate really cool stuff and those always go first. It's just a thought and allows a take away for folks involved, without the cost ending up solely on the organizer's shoulders. It's a small investment per person and just helps make the day seem more "official" I guess. I think it works well...

I like the idea and I am all for it. Some people attending are not members here and may not bring items to donate. That is the only problem that I can see.
How about the POT LuCK lunch? I think it's a good idea and we all gotta eat but I am worried about the details. Adding to an already full schedule, along with having enough for everybody, and asking people to bring stuff. Is this gonna be too much????

Rich,
I'd post up (and email) as many folks as you have contact with and ask them bring a little something, and do the best you can with the prizes (if you're concerned then you could limit the pirzes to only those who bring something).
As for the Pot Luck. Ross and I are planning to look for an infrared turkey fryer when we are away for Easter, if we find it we'll bring a bird and cook it up for the crowd. Potlucks are easy and there is always enough food !

Less than 2 weeks to go!!! Atcsam and I went up to Bundy Hill yesterday. Boy did we get a surprise!!! The place has really changed they have got some equiptment in there moving dirt and actually have a rideable MX track for us to use so more than likely we will be throwing something together in an MX competition as well.
The circle track is done and ready. It's tight but it should make for some awsome racing. The circle track is a sandy material so keep that in mind for your tire selection.
The drag strip is not done yet:( but that is the easiest of all to set up so really no worries there.
We will have a special area to park for this and admission for trike circus participants is only $10:p

Ok here is the story:welcome:,
After a late night Friday out at atcsams working on my 250r that decided to come down with an electrical problem at the last minute:mad:. I made it out to Bundy Hill and the weather was beautiful except that it was quite breezy. We ended up having about 30 3wheelers show up and we gave out awards to tapper, roscoe, and dave 84rider for traveling the furthest to get there. We then decided to do the wheelie contest before lunch. We had 5 contestants in the wheelie contest and some really impressive wheelies and tricks. Jimmy got first place, Eric 2nd, and Dizzo got 3rd.
Then it was time for lunch! We had a turkey, hotdogs, chips, some cookies that were awsome and some breads too! Thanks to all that brought and prepared the food for us all to enjoy it was a real nice touch and delicious! During our lunch we had our door prize raffle consisting of some very nice items up for grabs. There was a helmet, a spotlight, cargo straps, dvd, tools, parts etc... I won some cool red fuel line, :Bounceyeah me!
After lunch we headed off to the oval for our first racing event. Our first race was for the ladies and they put on a terrific show and taught the guys how it was done on quads unfortunitely but oh well! Cori placed 1st, then liway 2nd and Shannon 3rd. We then ran a couple of Quad classes to include some of them as well. In the first class Jacob Hall got 1st, Jason Divall got 2nd, and Kevin Shively 3rd. In our second group of quads we had a photo finish with Justin Hill securing the win due to some course issues that Aleck Swain had that cost him the win lol!
Then we had our Trike racing starting off with the 350x class. MagicJames placed 1st, Jason Divall 2nd, and Rick Boyd 3rd in a pretty crazy race. Next we ran a 250r class that Brandon Hall placed 1st, Jake 2nd and Karp 3rd. We had a 2nd 250r class and Lee350x took 1st, Brent took 2nd and nitrodude81r placed 3rd. Lastly we ran an open class with 4 racers. Jason Hall took 1st place on his 450 conversion, atcsam 2nd on his 450 yamaha conversion, Jake 3rd and karp 4th. I have to Thank my son Chase for dragging the track in between rounds and for flagging as well as John Swinehart, Cori, Shannon, Liway and everybody else that helped in this event.
We took a little break before heading off to the hill climb during which time I burried my 350x in some bottomless poo mud! Thanks to Roscoe and Tapper for rescuing me! The Hill climb was my favorite event and we had 14 entries in this contest. Our fastest time was by Atcsam at 6.27 seconds. Jason Hall placed 2nd with a time of 7.43, and kevin dizaztersrfun placed 3rd with a time of 7.49! I will list everyone elses times because nobody was far off from our leaders. Roscoe 9.5, Lee350x 8.76, Lee SR. 9.93, Brandon Hall 8.20, Jake 8.22, Karp 8.44, magicjames 12.00, Tapper 8.43, Brent9.92 well done guys! We then headed back to the lot for Hill climb awards and a break before the MX.
The MX racing was for the true diehards for sure. Most of the people were whooped by this time and some had began to pack for the journey home so my hats off to these guys for sure! We raced these guys hard and pushed them to the limit. We could only race 3 at a time safely on this narrow course so after many heat races I believe that it rolled out like this. Brandon Hall placed first in the main beating his dad Jason that narrowly got by atcsam that led him untill the last lap! Along the way in the heat races Jake got 1st, Brandon Hall 2nd, magicjames 3rd. In another race Karp placed 1st but should have been disqualified for loafing, jacob nitrodude81r 2nd, and CTK 3rd. Well done guys!
After all of that was done my son and I got to take a nice little ride around the place as the sun began to set and it made for the perfect end of a wonderful day! Thanks to all of you that showed up and please remember to go to http://www.bundyhilloffroad.com/ and thank them for all they did for us. :D Rich

So here are our pictures from the day. It was great to meet some new folks and see our friends as well. Sorry I wasn't up to snuff yesterday but we both had a great time!
There are quite a few pictures so bear with me.

Hey John! The only reason I'm heading up the new "volunteer" trike is because i heard you were gonna fuel me up with hot dogs and beer !!!
We gotta get together sometime soon and figure out some stuff!
EDIT: Why is it always when we go on rides that people have pictures of me upside down, on my back, flipping, rolling, falling, or any other verb you can think of??

I think after sitting on that Z, that it might be the path of destruction for me. I really hate to do that because I've been collecting 250r parts for the last 3 years !!!
