200m slipping

Hey guys, been awhile since ive been on here, sold the 200e and got a 200m free the other day! Seems to be pretty solid and whatnot..... The only thing i found when i got it was that it was bone dry on oil, so i filled that and no leaks.... But now...

Been playin in the snow with it, and all seemed fine, but then i took it out on the road and opened it up yesterday and noticed that 3rd & 4th seemed to "slip" a bit after shifting into them and getting on the throttle. It would wind up before it got the power like it was slipping.....

Where should i start to tear it apart and look for a culprit?
The clutch springs?
Tranny gears?

Could cheap oil do this? :drool:

i would think its the clutch pack. Those auto motors have 2 clutches...a centrificial and basket type...i would tear it down and ipsect what you need and do it all at once. I am pretty sure you can do it all in frame. Get a new gasket and a clutch puller if you do not have one.

There is a clutch adjustment but i feel that your fibers are shot. I need to do this on my 200s motor (same as M but no ESTART)...

I plan on just pulling the motor and do everything at once...bore hone piston kit, cam, valves, all clutches, etc etc...

I figured it would have to do with the clutches, but wasn't sure. Ill have to tear into it soon...

Will it hurt it if i ride it like this and fix it right before spring? I mainly ride around the driveway area, and thats about it, just pull the kids around and do some donuts and stuff like that....

What kind of oil did you use? I have heard some kinds of synthetic oil will make clutches slip. Also -try adjusting the clutch before you tear anything apart!

^^^ x2 on that advice. Before you do anything get some motorcycle oil and adjust that baby right. Then go from there. It might be fine. ^^^

The oil doesn't have to be synthetic to cause slippage in your clutches. No new automotive oil is good for wet clutches, not one. You need an oil that has the MA rating on it.

i agree with above,adjust your clutch and use a quality motorcycle oil.then see what happens.probably be putting in new clutches though.youll be able to ride it while you wait for parts.

i have revived many slipping clutches by scuffiing them up and changing oil type. i IMO no need to buy a clutch kit unless its burnt or worn beyond spec.. I am about to do this on my 200s... i noticed last time I had it out that it slips while upshifting under power... it holds fine if I let off the gas when shifting or just keep in one gear... i want to upgrade the springs. has anyone tried heavy duty springs or used springs from a different application?

When I had to do the clutch in my 200s, the manual clutch (clutch pack), was fine and it was the centrifugal clutch that was toast. I have a very hard time believing you can wear out a clutch pack when you have a centrifugal clutch seeing as how they are def weaker. I would check that and clean it all out any way there is the oil pump in side the centrifugal clutch that needs to be cleaned out while your in there. Normally you will see grooves in the clutch drum of the centrifugal clutch and if thats the case you need a new drum! I would start with adjusting it and if that doesn't help then just pull the clutch cover its a very easy job that wont take you long at all.

mine been slipping for a while so i put some 20w50 motorcycle oil in it with a bit of lucas oil stabilizer it helped out. i can take off better now it doesnt slip hardly at all. i was going to run it till i get a little time to fix

When I bought mine it cost 100 bucks brand new oem. I went with parts unlimited weights and pads.
