So Im putting the top end back on a 200s and I cant for the life of me get the timing chain on the sprocket. Cam is in, tensioner released and when I try to put the chain on the sprocket it just doesnt have enough play. Didnt change anything else either.

Mine was bear too. I ended taking the cam sproket off and putting chain on it and sliding the sprocket on with a little force. The tensioner was pressed all the way down as well. Try loosing the tensioner all the way and pressing down on tensioner while trying to get chain on. I would be interested to know if there is an offical method this this madness.

Well I got the chain on the sprocket but its way too far from the sprocket to bolt up even with the tensioner all the way in!!!

Have you checked to see that the chain isn't kinked under the crankshaft?

I know its something simple but what? The chain turns when I turn the recoil. WTH could it be? How can I check to see if its on the crankshaft correctly? Maybe after some christmas eve Captain tonight itll all come to me,haha.

From my own experience, I usually put the timing chain half on the cam sprocket, then turn the flywheel with my hand with some force and the chain gets forced on. That's how I've done it and it's worked all the time. You should definitely make sure that the chain isn't kinked or anything like that before you do it.

Unbolt the sprocket from the cam, slide the chain on, then put the bolts back in. Its worked for me in the past.

thats how it's done.if that wont work your chain is kinked up.you should be able to do this.

Yea I know that! Its already off the cam just wont go back on. Not even close! If it were kinked wouldnt it come unkinked when I rotated the crank cause it didnt.

Its not kinked its hung up around the center casting of the motor . Need to rotate the motor with no spark plug in it while the chain is kinda loose and pull it a few times pretty hard and it will pop loose again . If this doesnt work you might have to remove the left side engine case and see what the problem is .
