View Full Version : Need a little wiring help (350x lights)

I'm installing my Baja lights on the 350x. The wiring to the stock setup is pretty messed up. It was wrapped up in black tape when I got it and this is what I found under the tape. Two of the wires are cut. No idea what they were supposed to go to.

Disclaimer: I am a complete dolt when it comes to electrical/wiring crap.

All I need to know is, which two wires do I connect my new lights? My light switch is stuck on hi so I just need to wire them up to the hi beam only. The new lights are wired in series so that little two pronged plug is all I need to connect.

Rob, I know how much you love those big round lights so this is your ride next week.

sure you have power up there?is your headlight boot gone?do you know how much power?should be fairly easy as long as nothings grounded out.

Brown should be the "always hot" into the lighting switch. It should originate from a 3 wire connector with Brown/Green/White and Yellow, just in front of the left gas tank shroud.....

There should be a Blue wire from your light switch (12V hot when on high beams and running), wire nut or crimp 2 wires into that and run that to one end of your light. - Blue is high beams.... The other light wire goes to green or ANY ground and wire YOU ground anywhere.....

White is Low beams when running and the switch is on low (but you said that doesn't work anyhow).

Brown is the wire that gets switched (it goes up to your switch and does the job there), so you can connect Blue and White TOGETHER (then split it into 2 pigtails - one for each light) and your new lights would have 12 volts either at high or low beams, regardless of switch position, when the other wire goes to any ground or green.

Running a direct wire from brown to each light, and the other wire from each light to any ground or Green - would bypass the switch and give those lamps 12V ALL the time regardless of the switch (remove it for all I care) as long as it's running.......

Hope that helps! :D

Slightly confused. Just want to be clear we're on the same page.

The new lights are connected to each other. Two wires go from one light, into the other light, then two wires come out of that light into the little two pronged plug (this is the way they came from ricky stator). The way I read what you wrote it seems like you were under the impression that I need to run a wire to each light.

So, if I understand the misunderstanding (lol), the only wires I need to connect to my two pronged plug are the blue (12 volt hi beam) and the green (ground). Right?

The picture with the wires labeled by the way is the part coming out of the switch and going to the stock light sockets. The wires going up to the switch are still in good shape.

Last thing, the lights have a red and a brown wire. I'm assuming brown is the ground but I'm not sure how to tell for certain (or if it even matters).

Thanks for the assist. :beer

If I am riding that, Better bolt some wood blocks on the footpegs so I can reach them with the Hi-Flite seat on there.
I am only like 4'1 tall.
And I am gonna have Tammy make you some 3D boobie covers for those lights...

If you have a manual or Schematic, I can get them wired up for you when I get there.

The wiring will be done today. I'm just being a little overly cautious because I only have one set of bulbs and them things ain't cheap. :D

The lights have a pigtail with 2 wires, correct?? Call them black and white...... If there were a 3rd wire, we would have:

1) Hot for one beam
1) Hot for another beam
1) Ground for both, use an ohmmeter to find continuity to ground or you'r see it screwed to metal obviously....

You probably have just a 2 wire system without a dedicated ground.

1) Hot - any friggen color - For a one beam system (maybe black) - Tie one from each light together to blue
2) Ground - also any friggen color (maybe white) - Tie one from each light together to green

If they go directly to the bulb, the bulb is now just like a heater. Feed it either way and it works........

So, that takes care of the bulbs. Hopefully the rest of the lightswitch was explained well..............

PM me and give me a call if you want Doug, home all day..........

EDIT - Not that I've worked anytime recent..... But I have to "figure out" what every knuckleheaded HVAC tech does to the units, and some of them are horror shows. You can spend all day tracing circuits.... So, you get good at it. Or, you never pick it up and lose your job (PS, I was layed off not due to lack of ability,)

I advise guys to take a wiring diagram and just stare at it, try to follow power as ground is easy..... Do it enough and you'll catch on!!

I feel your pain. I worked for DirecTv for a while. Didn't have to deal with voltage or anything but figuring out what the people before me did in somebody's house was a nightmare sometimes. Epecially if they had Qwest TV. God I hated those guys.

I should have probably mentioned that the lights use an H3 type bulb. Might have been helpful. I just took some pics of the inside of the lights. Looks like if there is a ground, it has to be the brown wire. So brown to green, red to blue and I should be good to go I think.

Also, just for general information, a 250r voltage regulator seems to work just fine so far. Other than the part number on the back it looks like an identical part.

They work! And I didn't blow any bulbs in the process.
