I have an 85 350x with a full aftermarket system made by Scorcher which is the exact thing as the Cobra steel system. Well, whenever I go to repack it, it seems like it stays quiet for about an hour but then it gets loud again. If I pull the core back out, the packing closest to the engine is gone!! I have the longer perforated core meaning it can hold more packing. It just seems like whatever I do the first six inches closest to the engine burns away to fast?? Is there something I am doing wrong when I go to repack it or should I be using some other type of packing. I've used the fmf 4 stroke packing and some other off brand stuff that was more "stringy" then "fluffly" if you know what i mean. Are there any kind of tricks or tips that can help me from burning so much packing?

Suprisingly this muffler isn't really as loud as the aluminum Cobra or DG RCM mufflers but I really like it when it is quiet as if it was just repacked.

Try steel wool for the first 6 inches or all together. I dont know if it will work on these bigger engines, but it worked for my pit bike that had the same problem! It's still quiet, after about 20 hours of running! Or try MSR 450 Gram, Silent Sport Muffler Packing, it's somewhat costly, but I am sure will solve your problem.
