out of all the 70's out there i cant be the only one to have the headpipe freeze in the head!! the exaust and flange are gone, what i have is a 1" or so stub of pipe sticking out of the head. Does not look like its going to be easy to get out. I know there are two wedges in there, but it all looks like one piece. I'll get some pics tomorow. Anyone have any good tricks to getting this out. Or have a cheap head laying around. lol. The motor is on the bench.

maybe try heating it up good

it will come out easily if you heat it with oxygens or a sort of flame

I agree, you did good with the penetrating oil, and the next step would be heat. Heat the aluminum around the pipe, not the pipe itself. With any luck, the aluminum will expand, and you will be able to pull it right out.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I will try to heat the &^%$ out of it. hopefully it will come out as easy as you think. Hopefully the broken part of the head is not bad. There isnt much meat to the backside of the port. i have scraped it quite a bit, and been soaking in pb. I will have at it tomorow .

i would dremmel a slot down the side, and use vice grips to fold it in. But im not much for finnesse..

this is what i had to do. i had one that i tried everything and it would not come out. i had to cut the head a little and cut out the metal a little at a time. i also had another one that came out after soaking it in a bucket of Kroil. i have 10 to 20 heads that i would sell. not many of them have valves in them. some of them have cams and rockers and maybe a couple with valves. i have no idea if the valves would be any good in the ones that have them. i don't know about the guides either.

if this one turns out to be junk, maybe i'll hit you up. could i just take the internals out of my head and swap them?

yes but you would want new valves most likely. the wear of your valves would not match the wear of my valves. should get new ones and lap them in.

dremmel has some small cutter's to grind ring in half and pry away You may look at investing in a reverse blow slide hammer as well.....very handy!! They have a variety of attchments including a sharp hook you could grip ring with and reverse blow it out...... PB blaster as always and heat may work as well. If you have a welder and it protrudes past fin then I would weld a piece of flt stock or bar stock to it, turn it over and get the ole' hammerwarmed up..... good luck

finaly got this prick out, been soaking in pb since the thread started. Just ended up beatin, heatin, prying , picking, and every other thing imaginable. Cant believe how thin the metal is where its broke. It should be fine. is there a gasket in the head?
