hey guys, i did a search but did not find what i am looking for. sorry if i did not look hard enough. i just got this 86 200x and i am trying to get it situated without spending a ton of money. when you push down on the grab rail, it returns really slow. i am guessing that the rebound is adjusted (if there is one) all out of whack. my guess is that if the reservoir were empty or leaky, it would just spring back really quickly. the 86 i had as a kid was all stock at the rear except i had the preload pretty tight. i have not messed with that yet, but it appears to be screwed down pretty far on the coil. any suggestions for adjustment or a remedy? if it is too costly, i will probably just leave it. i i will primarily be trail riding with it. the notion of it not being right is just really annoying.

thanks for the help. like i said, i did the search but it yielded all kinds of irrelevant threads.

I'm not sure on the late model 200x shocks, but on the 250R and 350Xs, the knob on the canister is your compression. Then at the bottom of the shock fork where it mounts to the swingarm there is a little flat slotted screw. That is your rebound adjustment. What I reccomend doing is counting the clicks till it bottoms out whatever way your turning it, and write them down. Then count back to where you started at, and adjust from there. It is very important to keep track of suspension adjustments or you can make a mess of it quickly.

ive had alot of bikes do that, you need to just play with your dampening and compression settings. normaly like billy said theres a plasic knob under the shock where it mounts or on the one side where it mounts at the bottom.

i always back everything of and go all the way in then to find out what im dealing with for adjustements, then go ride and set it up as you need. i dont think any 200x's had adjusters on the rezzy's but they do on the lower part of the shock for sure.

thanks guys. is clockwise more dampening, and counter clockwise less dampening? i will play around with it and see what happens. i dont think i can make it any worse than it is. do you guys agree that if there was a leak or an issue with it, it would just spring back immediately right? i would think i would have just the opposite condition with it than what i have now. i have always liked my suspensions, even on my racebikes, to be stiff and fairly quick on the rebound for feedback from the trail/road.

It might have any nitrogen or oil in it...a rebuild prob would be best. on my xr200 woods the more i go in the slower it is to dampen from what i remeber.
