I am rebuilding a 84 200ES. The manual says if there are any grooves in the centrifugal clutch drum to replace it. Wouldn't the grooves allow more surface area to contact between the clutch shoes and drum?

As long as the drum isnt warped I would use it . A smooth drum surface IMO will have better stoping power though .

Everyone I've ever took apart has had em, and sometimes at the shop we will just grind ddown the grooves flat and reinstall.
