View Full Version : What other front rims / front ends will fit?

I have a 1982 atc 185s.
I need a front rim/tire for it. What other bikes' front tire will fit? (85 200x maybe?)
Also, what front ends would bolt right on? I've heard the later year 185s and 185 had front suspension and would fit, but would anything else?
EDIT: I have a guy with a full 85 200x front end w/ suspension. I can try taking just the tire, but I'd like to have suspension. What would I need to do to get it to fit? Also, should I just use a full 200x frame with my 185 motor, so that I'd have a full suspension set up? He has most parts to build a roller.

Worcester huh? Hop skip and a jump away from me. I *think* Ive seen a 200s before with a early style 200x front end on it, but i cant say 4-sure. Been so long since ive had one of them hardtails, but I think the 185 and the 200 have similar steering necks. Maybe with a cpl mods, like lengthening or shortening the neck of the 200x tripple trees it can be made to work,......wonder if they share the same dia where the ball bearings sit....Ive got a pair of tripples kickin around here somewhere.

I wouldn't mind modifying anything to work, just would rather get the easiest/quickest solution to get my trike up and running.
Need to get spark back, re-attach rear wheels, re-wind pullstart, get master link, then fix my plastics. Going to need to add a small aluminum piece under the rears, then use rivets and bondo to cover up the top. Got a big long crack in it. And then recover seat.
Already got the parts for pullstart, cleaning my chain in carb cleaner as I type this, then will wipe it down and re-lube. Got some marine vinyl, new wiring + all components.
Couldn't save my rim/tire though. It seems to have a tube in it? Thought all of them were tubeless, must be a previous owner's attempt to fix it?

New idea, may use an 85 200x front end or full frame. Thoughts?

Alright, that sounds like my best option. I have a spare chain drive trx200sx quad motor, eventually I can make the 185 frame into a complete bike, but that's somewhere down the road.
Which other parts are interchangeable, gas tank/plastics/seat, rear axle, tires?

No, for the 200x you have to use 83-85 200x rear fenders and seat and tank. Also if you want to put the 185s engine into the 200x, you will need to mod a rear brake pedal since on the 200x the brake pedal attaches to the side of the engine. The quick and easy way would be to just keep the stock front end and find a wheel and tire. To fit a 200x front end on, you would have to change over the steering stem to the 185 steering stem. There was a thread on here before the switch over describing what to do. Even if you put the 83 185s suspension front end on or the 84 and later 200s, you will still have to mess with the steering stops.

i have a 185 with a 200x front end it was welded on and i don't recommend it it sits way too high.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I will try to search for that thread. Or just continue to search for a front rim/tire. Sucks when no one responds to emails from Craigslist

There were people that recently listed 110 parts for sale in the classifieds. The later 110 wheels are exactly the same as the
185s wheels, 4x130. Have you tried contacting people in the classifieds for your wheel?

Haven't looked into 110 rims/tires yet, as I didn't know what years would fit. I'd have to look at my tire, then compare.
Not sure if the rim mounting is the same.

The rims on the 4 bolt 110 are exactly the same and the tires are exactly the same, 22x11x8. I can't remember if 82 and later 110's or 83 and later 110's, but the wheels are exactly the same. If you go to shortlines thread about his 110 Dickson frame, those turbo wheels would fit your trike cause they are the same size and bolt patternt. Just ask for a front wheel for a 110 and you will be good to go. Trust me on this.

Thanks for the tip (and post in the classified section). I have two 110s, but I can't take the front tire off as they're both earlier models, 80 and 81. (The '81 has points? Either swapped engine or really early 81 that didn't use CDI?)
Thanks for the tip, I should be able to get one locally or from the classifieds.

I want to see you get your 185s going, but you are kind of beating yourself up doing it in the process. This is all to have fun with, not get frustrated over. And feel free to use the search box up top, there is a ton of info on here on questions you may have now. People have gone through many of the same things you're dealing with. I think pretty much anything honda 81 and earlier is the 3x100 bolt pattern, even the 81 250r! And I believe everything 82 and later is 4x130. Now the only exceptions to this are the 83 and later 200x, 250r and 350x front wheels. They do have those 25" tires that are the 4x130 bolt pattern, but I haven't had much experience with those. Best of luck getting your 185s going again. I know I've had a blast on mine.
