big red muffler

i am looking for a muffler for my 86 big red and it appears that the original is discontinued any suggestions were to get a muffler from that is not too loud (my mom threatened to throw me out of the house if i showed up with a cobra:naughty:) the original has been welded so much i am pretty sure flow is reduced by %25 the header pipe is fine though.:TrikesOwn

i would wait it out on ebay for a nice stock one, and do not buy a cobra, mine is stupid loud like i can't hear my self think

I was looking for one last fall and the only options I found were to get a stock one, cobra, or a GGB. www.ggb.ca they look nice, and like they wouldnt be too loud. kinda pricey though

My silencer was shot, although the header and pipe up to the muffler are good so I got the back box from a 1000cc Mini and welded it to the pipe. Had to fashion a bracket to suit the original mount but it works and is mostly out of sight so few will notice. Have a rummage in your local scrap/salvage yard, you never know what you'll find that might just fit.

Just be patient and look on eBay daily.
It took me several months, but I finally found a nice one at a reasonable price.
Don't buy a junk one - hold out until a decent one comes along.

If you are handy with tools - you can retrofit other mufflers on there. I have an ATC200 muffler adapted to a cobra headpipe on mine. it is pretty quiet. Just an option since the 250ES mufflers are pretty hard to come by.

be patient with ebay, i see alot of nice systems go for reasonable. You got to watch out, cause alot of guys blast them with fresh paint for the pics, try to find one that looks to have the original paint.

well if you would want a little loudness there is a thread on here about putting a ford tractor muffler from tractor supply on your trike. i have one on my ytm 200 and it sounds good and not too terribly loud but you know its there/

I am also on the lookou for a OEM muffler for my Big Red! Had a Cobra on it...but everyone knows the rest!
