Only because it is easier to get aftermarket parts for...
I went to the Yamaha dealer today, checked the price on JUST the needle jet in the carb...I was thinking $10-15max...$57.00!!! I can buy 2 brand new carbs for a Honda trike for that money! For a Yamaha there is NOTHING, not even aftermarket carb kits available!
Has anyone found any knock-off carbs for Yamaha trikes that bolt direct on? There must be some...?
Thanks!

I would check ebay. I was in the same boat, with my tri z, and the needle costing $50 plus! I was on ebay one day, and found a old nos carb rebuild kit that had all the new jets, gaskets, needle and all, for $15. Try different searches, or maybe someone on here would know of a seller that sells these? Good luck!

I found your model. By needle jet I'm assuming you mean the needle on the slide right? If so, it's $33 from powersportspro.com. I'm not sure what shipping would run you though. That needle is supposed to fit the Moto-4 too so maybe a carb kit from one of those would fit yours?

What model carb is on those trikes? Keihin, mikuni, what? I'll do some research if someone will tell me what make and model carb it is. Is your bike the above mentioned YTM 200 or?

I may be able to get em for 10.95 + shipping. Just need the number off the needle jet. Should be 3 numbers followed by a letter and a number. EX.- 159-R5. I'll see if I can get the one you need. Or if your local dealer does anytihng with Parts unlimited, they can get it to. Through the atv catalog, but they'll still need the part number.

Thanks guys, I was able clean the needle just just best as a I could with some super fine brass polish...I think it might be ok. It looked corroded, but turned out alright. I will test it this weekend.
As for the trike, its a 1984 YTM225DX...carb is a Mikuni VM24SH
Thanks all!

You can rebuild it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-AT3-KEYSTER-CARB-KIT-1973_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1e59d0a9f6QQitemZ1 30355866102QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
What you have labeled there is the jet holder. It's $23 from powersportspro.com. Yamaha number 21V-14148-00-00.

Thanks man! I was unaware any kits were out there. It does not specifically say 225DX, but the carb model is the same. I never thought to search by carb model, only trike model. Greatly appreciated!

No problem. I'm just going by what the factory parts call it. Look at #10 in your diagram and you'll see the same part just words reversed. ;)
