Honda rattle can colors

I know, I know. I should paint it right but thing isn't going to be a beauty queen and I don't have the cash to get it done professionally. I just want it to look a little better than it does. I thought I remembered reading not long ago about a spray paint being really close to the Honda Passion Red but I can't find it again. I searched for quite some time last night. Is there anything close to the paint Honda used on the wheels?

It is Sunrise Red by Rustoleum. I saw it at Wal-Mart one day so I grabbed a can of it but I haven't used it yet to compare to the oem color. I need to do that sometime.

For the wheels I haven't found anything that great. All the aluminums, steels, etc end up looking too silvery and metallic and not gray like oem.

Dont be afraid to clean things up with the rattle can for a cheap clean up. it does chip easy but it looks better than a beat up frame

try argent silver wheel paint used both by gm and mopar and you get it in a spray can...

if you go this route just use some enamel epoxy paint. rustoleum has come out with some new paints the the days of early days edogin.

i have used some really nice enamel on my g/f sportbike wheels which stated it did not require primer but must be applied on bare metal. strip the frame with aircraft stripper or get it sand blasted at least so it has a good surface to adhere too. thats why alot of spray paints look like crap cuz people spray over paint, dirt, rust....take your time it will look as good as PC and hold up pretty good. ive done alot of things this way and its holder up just as nice. however i only do this when temps are high in the summer. in winters ill just have it blasted and coated cuz i dont have time to waste

oldskool83 is right. The only things I paint during cold temps is things I can heat a bit in the oven, and then bake for a short bit afterwards. Been working pretty good for me on a budget.


Of course, I do have a powdercoat connection now that only costs me the price of the powder....lol

Rustoleum Sunrise Red is also available at Home Depot, and it's pretty close to the correct color. You can also get a clear coat too.

I picked up the Sunrise Red today and just judging by the cap, it looks pretty damn close. I picked up some Dupli-Color engine enamel clear that's resistant to gas so I'm going to do a test panel of Dupli-Color over Rustoleum to see if there's any problems. If not, I shouldn't have to worry about the gas doing funny things with the paint if I happen to spill. The forks, headlight bucket and tank will be the only things I'll paint red for now. I'll have to look into the argent wheel paint and see if I can get any of that locally. If not, I'll just eyeball something in Rustoleum that's reasonably close. As for the paint prep, I've done some pretty decent rattle cans and I know all about painting over dirt, loose rust, etc. I learned that early on. Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping this weekend or possibly early next week I'll get some progress on the tank and headlight. I'll leave the fork unpainted for now to see about paint match and I don't really feel like tearing the forks apart in 0˚F weather. Don't worry, the tank and headlight will be painted in my basement where it's warm.

Yeah, like rdlsz24 said, the Rustoleum paint is a close match. I just finished rebuilding my 83 185S last week. In fact, I'm gonna try and post before and after pics soon. I used the Rustoleum red for the tank, front shock bodies and a couple other smaller pieces and I was real happy with the way it looked. It's surprisingly close to what Honda used. In fact, many people think I got special paint to match the original color. If it wasn't for my fenders being faded, I don't think you would be able to tell the difference. On the wheels I also used gray Rustoleum. They have a nice dark gray look to them.

I agree. The Sunrise Red is incredibly close. I got the tank painted but not cleared so I haven't taken any pictures. I put it next to the tank and fenders on my 110 and I can't see a difference.
