Everyday I wish i would have been born ten years sooner so that I could have experienced everything kick ass about the 80s . The new rock just seems so fake and talentless . I really hope that time repeats itself and the awesome music from the 70s and 80s comes back .

I have to agree with you, while some really good bands come out from time to time- a whole lotta everything else just sounds wayyy too "cookie cutter" for me. Two thumbs up on the music! We need a little flash back every now and again to remind us where rock-roots came from. :)

you said it our "rock roots" . I cant even bring myself to listen to any of the new music they call rock , just seems mish mashed together to me with no style , little talent . The old bands well most of the old bands wrote there own music using life experiences and such for influence . The electric guitar is not used as it was back in the day and I also think that has a lot to do with it to ...

If you like Kill'em All then thank Dave Mustaine. you can hear his influance on it. Metallica went down hill after Cliff died anyway. Listen to Killing is My Biz and Biz is good and you'll see why all the speed metal bands say Dave is the TRUE SORCE OF SPEED METAL. If it wasn't for Dave, Metallica would sound like Exdous. not bad but not good. Hey Eric Jensen you forgot Woody Guthrie but Dolly doesn't surprise me...now I see why you like MILK!!!

absolutely...Dime was one of a kind...personally i think Floods was one of his best works of art..maybe not the hardest, thrashin-est, but very good just the same...

In 89 I was playing bass for a local Philly band Deadly Blessing. We would open for major acts on all age sundays at the Trocadaro. Well on thanksgiving weekend we opened for Pantera. Now at that time Phil just replaced the org singer and they were going in a new direction...THRASH METAL!!! Cowboys wasn't out yet, not for another year. Anyway they used to be GLAM!!!!!!!!! Imagain Darrel all done up!! There was MAYBE 60 PEOPLE THERE and most if not all of them were our freinds!! They crashed the night at my by buddy Jay Goldberg's house and got tattooed by him. Pantera single handedly saved Metal from dieing in the 90's.Grunge was on the move and what a depressing time it was. They will allways hold a place in the top 5 metal bands.
From 85-89 I played in a few Philly bands, I was a fill in guy when you were looking for a bass. I liked metal but I was a hippie and was into the jam. I got to open for alot of cool bands...Slayer in 87 at Pulsations, people were throwing sht at us and the other two bands just to get us off quicker so Slayer could get on......Nucluar Assualt..Testament..Death Angel...Anthrax..M.O.D...Morbid Angel...Venom,those are 3 screwed-up guys, King Diamond/MC Fate....and quite a few more.
Back then the music was way better and you could see a band playing at a local ROCK CLUB or bar. There were tons of clubs back then all playing some sort of metal. Not anymore.......Dam ONE HIT WONDERS of today.

thats awesome! but yeah, ive seen some stuff on youtube from panteras glam days! i couldnt believe it was them!! lol! and you are dead right about grunge in the 90s and pantera having alot to do with saving metal... i graduated in 96, and i remember having this friendly rivaly between me and some friends. they were all into nirvana and others like them and of course i was all about 'Tallica, Pantera and others like them...i was outnumbered but i held my ground!! lol! nothing against the bands like that, AIC still rocks IMHO, but they dont make the hair stand up on my neck when i get jammin out in the bigrig crankin it up all the way like pantera still does!! \m/

I like how he went from Diamond darrel to dimebag darrel.. too funny
I grew up in the 80's thrash metal. I was drooling when Pantera came out, and the thing about them, they got heavier with every album, where most bands relax as time goes on.
I still love almost anything heavy.
Anyway, stumbled across these guys a few weeks ago and I really dig em.
Warning....Not easy listening.

Yeah that was a time when you could buy an lp or cd and enjoy every track on it.
Now days your lucky if they have one or two good songs on them and the rest is trash.
