I have a 1983 YTM200 which, after a lot of time and effort (and help / parts from you guys on this forum), I have made into a really good machine once again.

My trike runs awesome, drives awesome, and I even got the back brakes working again (kind of mandatory since I LOVE 12 o clock wheelies heh heh).

However, after hitting just a small bump/jump, I broke the front part of my seat (and I only weigh 170 lbs.). The plastic underside of the seat broke (the part right near where the front of the seat sticks into the frame)

I was kind of bummed since I spent a long time searching ebay and checking back, before I finally found a good deal on a seat that was actually in good condition with no major rips.

Too bad the seat didn't last long at all. I guess 27 years tends to make plastic pretty brittle.

Is it even POSSIBLE to find a seat for a YTM200 that isn't brittle like that? Any ideas???

Luckily it isn't that big of a deal since the back of the seat still latches to the frame, and it will probably last forever like that. However, it IS pretty annoying, since the rest of the trike is in good shape (and not to mention the friggin seat is in awesome shape, OTHER than that, but now it is ruined forever, since the plastic underside cannot be removed from the rest of the seat I don't think).

Do you guys run into this problem too? Maybe it doesn't help that the ytm200 has no suspension? LOL!

I have 3 or 4 sets of rear plastics and broken seats. I just think the 200's have brittle plastic.
Before I got mine the PO cut the seat area out of a spare set of fenders, and then screwed it onto the fender on the bike.
So my rear fenders are 2 layers thick, except for the seat.
I broke a big piece off one of the other fenders I have just by picking it up.
And they are not sun faded at all.

Why not make some alum seat pans or stainless steal ones so nothing breaks.

Is the seat foam glued to the fiberglass on those? If not, carefully remove the cover and foam. You can make your own seat with a little ambition: http://www.3wheeler.org/vb/showthread.php?t=40027 I'm going to try that process myself. If you're worried about your seat cracking again, lay in some strips or thin rods of metal in the fiberglass when you're making it.
