Dumb Question regarding Big Red

What makes this bike so special? i cant help but see this bike everywhere on this forum, also see alot of people who have rebuilt one or have one in flawless condition, is it just me noticing them too much? is there something amazing about the bike that im missing? is this a sign that i need to have one?

P.S a little back story as to why im asking. i Keep seeing them here on the forum and was already a bit curious then coincidently yesterday i went to a friends house and noticed his neighbors son opening their garage and saw they had a beautiful 200 big red sitting in there, the bike looked almost new!... i didnt meet the owner of the bike and my friend doesn't know them either so im hoping you guys can shed some light on this....

uh, the motor's run for ever, easy to work on, fun in mud, and they make a great friends only bike.

Definatly easier to work on, then a Yamaha. I found this out. I have both. The real reason I think is.... You can still find parts! I believe that is the only reason!

I have had my 85 BR since new. I have never had any mechanical problems. It will haul just about anything, go anyplace I have ever wanted, I used it in the winter to haul cedar logs out of the swamp on a sleigh, it is very comfortable on trails. It was starting to look pretty bad a couple of years ago so I completely restored it. Looks almost like the day I bought it. Use it now for trail riding. Some call it the "Cadallic of Trikes"

Lots of power, lo/hi trans with reverse. These trikes were the start of all the utility 4 wheelers you see now. Just something cool and nostalgic about plowing your drive with a 26 year old trike costing under 1000.00 when your neighbor is using his 6000.00 4 wheel drive quad:p:beer Not to mention roll em' and ride em'!! Tough well built ole' creatures:mad: Gotta go... it's snowing and the big red is slobbering:drool::drool:

They are just plain awesome... Mine is 25 years old and doesnt burn oil, doesnt eat plugs... Nothing... Fires up everytime, pulls deer out of the woods, pushes snow in the winter, pulls the utility trailer around, goes ice fishing with me... Heck, its a better friend than my dog!

Tough as a tank, always starts, reverse (84 and up), comfortable as hell (with suspension), pulls anything, looks great! Blows quads away on tight wooded trails up here, unbeatable for maneoverability!

I looked for a cherry one for years, found one from an older dude that had it sitting in his garage for 20 years, tires still had red lines and stubble on em. Steal for 1000 bucks. Something about em, I just love 'em!

Maybe someone should tell the story of Big Red, I like all trikes but when I think Big Red I always think 250 es model. I dont know if its just me but the 250 es was the caddy of all "bigs" I have been riding since mid 70's and didnt even realize other trikes were called big red other than the 250 es until few years ago. The main reason I like the 250 es is suspension, reverse, wieght and reliability, not knocking the sx or 200's always felt the 200's were lost in too many es,m,e, seems they were just development models until the 250 es/sx model took over.
