i have a 85 350x and could trade it for a 86 tecate i do all trail riding sometimes ill drive to a store or race but mostly trails should i trade or not??? ? |

If you mostly ride trails, then I'd stay with the 350X. You can putt around slower when needed and ride wide open. The Tecate will require a jetting change when you change altitude and/or the temperature changes. I like 2 strokes but I don't miss having to mix the oil and gas, especially when you go for a long ride and can't just pull up to the gas pump and get super unleaded. I had a Banshee that I had over $8000 into and it was extremely fast and fun, but I traded it for a Honda 400ex that is better suited for mountain and trail riding.

I do 95% of my riding on Trails. I ride my 350x's most of the time. I very rarely have a problem with it riding trails. So I say keep the x.

I wasn't going to bring this up, but felt I should. Tecate's are known for shaking everything loose, Including the magnets on the Flywheel. A lot of time this takes out the stator. Not a cheap fix either.
With a Tecate: If your doing a lot of trail riding you will spend a lot of time tightening up bolts, replacing lost bolts, and doing other repairs.
My 350x on the other hand, in the last 1 1/2 years has only had: the spark plug replaced ( once ), a side case gasket replaced, and a few oil changes.
To me it's a no brainer. But I always liked my 4 stokes better anyway. lol

Trade! 350X's are allot more common than a good 86 KXT. Maintenence is Key. But if you take the time it will reward you with an exhilirating ATV experience. Or it least mine has for years now. Anyway If your disappointed you'll be able to sell the Tecate and get another X. As much as I love the 84/85, I probably wouldn't trade a 350X for one of those unless it was mint stock or had tons of aftermarket racing goodies from back in the day.
