200x cam chain adjustment

Well i fired up the wifes 85 200x today and the cam chain seemed to be making alot of noise.I tried to adjust it like the books says.When I loosened the adjuster the noise got a little quieter but as soon as I tightened it the noise cam back.Am I doing something wrong or is it time for a new chain, tennsioer and guide?

might need new chain its probally strecthed. And slapping around.

Sounds like you need a new timing chain . Could possibly be a worn or broken tensioners which is pretty common . Pop the flywheel cover off and take a peek .
