I restored the blue 86 bw 80 and the red bw 200es about 2 to 3 years ago . I bought them from my local salvage yard . $ 200 for bw 80 and $ 350 for the bw 200es . I torn them down to the frame and had them powder coated frames , new crank bearings , bore , new piston , rings , new gaskets and seals on the 80 and the 200es just new rings , NOS carb and all NOS plastic including tank and rear tire . I don't plan on selling them anytime soon .

Nice Big Wheels. Where is your 85 though? No BW collection would be complete with an 85. Kick start only. If mine was nicer, I would try and trade my 85 for the knocking BW350. Of course mine is no longer stock. Tri Z front end. Pro Tec exhaust with a Super Trapp economy muffler and a rear rack. I do have alot of nos parts on it now though. Rear tire and a bunch of engine bits thanks to a fromer owner who trashed the right side engine cover. I guess your bikes started off in pretty good shape, but my poor bw was a little rough. LOL Now it's been kind of a work in progress while riding on occasion. Get that 85 though to round off your collection. Keep up the good work. I can't imagine where you found some of that nos plastic though.

Hey Veal , i also have an 85 kick start model , it is torn down in box , needs top end overhaul . As far as the New yamaha plastic on my bw 200es i ordered it through yamaha and they still had all of the plastic still in stock . I think the rears are discountined now .The bw 350's are not for sale , I have two new fuel tanks , pair of side panels , headlight , front fender all NOS yamaha plastic .The tank on the bw 350 now did crack from sun fade , i used JB weld to fix .

nice bigwheels man, i have had my eye out for a 350 for awhile, they are very rare around here. Just saw one few days ago right in my area, first one in a long time. It was restored nicely, but guy wanted 3g's. More than I want to part with. That is a beautiful 4-zinger also!! I just picked one up for my son. It is red, all original, sounds a little rough when running though. as soon as i tie up some other projects i want to get into that little thing.

yep, it is a complete bike....or so he says. will have to see when i get there. not bad for $200 since they sell for 10 times that. gotta have my brother in law look at the motor. if it can be salvaged and rebuilt then i'll likely have the frame PC'd. i'll probably ride the bike a few times and sell it to fund other projects i have going. if the motor is beyond repair, it'll be parted out. either way, i don't think i did bad for the price.
there isn't much info out there about these bikes. how many bw350's were made? what is the top speed? also, since you have some experience with these bikes, i may have to rely on you for some help locating parts and assembly.

Tri-shee, I just picked up nos tank and side covers from speed sport. I'm still looking for a rear fender though. They have nos headlight surround and front fenders even though the front fender is different from mine. My fender is like the maier tri z fender. I thought about picking up a maier front fender and wouldn't mind finding a nos tri z white headlight shroud and the bw200 rear fender. Are there any rear fenders down around your area? I thought about taking the rear swinger off and repowdercoating that and getting all the parts to rebuild the intermediate shaft.

Hey guys, new here. Came across this thread on a search. I have a 1985 BW200. It has been acting funny when it really gets warmed up. This is kind of hard to describe. I can just be riding it and it will kind of sputter a bit and then surge into a different "mode" where it suddenly has alot more power and goes faster. It is almost like a knock, but I'm not sure. It does not want to idle when it is like this and is a little more difficult to start. I'm no engine expert but would appreciate any input of anyone has any. Sorry to bring up an old thread. (Posted here since OP has several BWs)

I just picked up two more 1987 yamaha big wheel 80's a couple of weeks ago for $200. Both where missing carbs , other wise they are complete . The one has good compression , bought one of those aftermarket carbs on ebay for it . Installed new carb and air filter, the bike runs great . I checked to see if the oil injection works great .I am the process of cleaning the fuel tank and ordering new sky blue decals on ebay . The other bike i am going to restore it using the 1990 color scheme . The last year made on the bw 80 is 1990 with a red, white, and blue color scheme . You don't see the 1990 models show up in good shape or restored .

I like the tw 200. I had an 87 in the mid 90's that thing was awesome! more than once I had it layed down far enough on the street to scrape them stubby foot pegs. under powered for sure but still tons of fun on and off road

Rides like a cloud, very smooth. Honestly, I've havent noticed any power or torque difference between skinny tires or fat. Its a perfect all terrian bike that works great were I ride in AZ. One min I'm in deep sand then the next its rocks, gravel, hills, and woods. Which was the purpose of the orignal Big Wheels, but now I got great power and suspension.

Rims are basic Rhino wheels I got from a dealer. I had to pick a rim size with the most options of tires available. Rhino tires that are round enough to be practical on a bike are hard to find. I went with: Front 25h x 8w / 12rim Rear 24h x 11w / 12rim

Damn that thing is cool Jordan. Wish you were around when I had my WR450.
A guy in Oregon did this with a CRF450. He had to move the radiators up on the handlebars though because the wider forks ran into them. No issues with the yamaha's I see.
How much are you looking to get out of one of these kits, if you don't mind me asking?
JordanUSMC
07-25-2011, 05:05 PM
At this point I cant sell a kit for any less than 2k. The rims w/ tires alone cost up to $350, then add the fabricated parts. I'm trying to get the cost down on the custom parts so hopefully the cost will come down.
But as it stands a Yamaha Big Wheel kit w/ rims & tires is 2k roughly, and to build a kit for a honda or suzuki is like $2,500.

Jordan, that is one sweet machine there. You need more info on your site, like pics of the parts you get in the kit. Also, what year bikes the parts fit. Very tempting. Get more pics and info up on your site please.

The website was a quick dash to get something online for people to start going to. Honestly once we posted video on youtube of the Big Wheel people have been filling my email & voicemail non-stop. But I will post pics of the custom parts ASAP, like this weekend. I have to take it apart anyways to put paddles on it.
I am in the works to design a kit for a Suzuki 650cc and also a Honda 450cc. But overall the kit includes front and rear tire w/ rims, front and rear drive shaft / hub, custom triple clamps, and rear swingarm. You use your factory brake assembly and sprocket so you can roll back to skinny tires anytime. Anymore questions feel free to email me. usmcjordan@yahoo.com

And just one thing to let you know and i'm surprised you haven't been bashed on it already. One of the big things on here is not to post pics of being on a machine without a helmet, especially a moving machine. We recently lost a well loved member while he was riding his machine without a helmet.

Tri-Shee That is an awesome collection. I grew up on 3 wheelers and I remember when the fatcat and big wheels were around. I always wanted a fatcat or Big wheel. I know this thread is a little old but I am finally in the position where I can afford to buy one. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me. What model do you think is better the fatcat or the Big wheel 350 or 200? I heard the honda is a better running machine but with not as good suspension. Then I heard the Big Wheel 350 is bigger and has bigger tires with a lot more power. I also heard a few people said to go for the fatcat because the big wheels had bad chain set-up and the front chain always fell off. Since you own both I was wondering if you could give me any information about them. Thanks Jim

I like the honda fatcat 200 the way it sits and rides . The fatcat has a better seat than the bw 200 . As far as the yamaha bigwheel 200 or 350 . The bigwheel 350 has a better suspension and a better seat , more power . As far as the chain setup on the yamaha bigwheels , you will have to perform more maintenance on the chains . I restored my 1986 yamaha bw20es , and i don't ride it much , only around the yard . The honda fatcat is an auto clutch and the yamaha's have a manual clutch . I have not restored my bw 350 yet either . When i was a teenager i always wanted a honda fatcat and the yamaha bigwheels 80 ,200,350 and know i can have them all . Let me know if you have anymore questions . Later Thanks Blair

Now that Tri-shee brought it up, how do you guys keep the front chain adjusted on the Big Wheel 200? The factory adjustment isn't much on these. Do you use half links?
tri-shee

You can get half links for the american chain size #50 or when it gets to loose replace the chain.
