Here's the deal... whoever owned my trike before me stripped out the lower right footpeg mounting hole. They then drilled out that hole, tapped the footpeg lower hole, and used an oversize bolt. Basically, that lower bolt just sat in the hole. Now, do I want to do a helicoil type repair, or cut the mount off of a junk frame I have and have it welded on?

I just picked up a trike and have the exact same problem. The previous owner put a carriage bolt to hold it in place. I am probably going to do a helicoil repair or end up doing some welding.

Mine broke in the same spot. I ended up drilling the old bolt out and tapping it. Since someone already hacked it up your best bet is a helicoil if its possible.

I though so... it's just pretty thin-walled there now, you know?

Yeah, its a tough call. It seemed in my case that the bolt itself was the weak point and just sheared. Luckily it happened on a ride that was pretty much local and we were never too far from the guys house that we rode from.

I would do a Timesert myself, they are locking inserts with full steel threads make for a much stonger repair.
