This is my 1990 quadzilla. Ridden only in the dunes and stored for the last 7 years. I should ride it this year with the 1986 Tri Z 250 I rebuilt...but only in the dunes!

Both bikes look perfect. I am just curious if you have had any engine problems with the zilla. I have heard terrible stories about them from a few people that have owned them. All I know is that a zilla is the only quad that has just tore my R up at the sand drags and looked to be in its stock form.

You know I have never had any trouble with the zilla at all. The original owner rode it in Glamis only from 1991 to 1995. He changed the oil, cleaned the air filter and changed the spark plug after every ride.
It is also a 1990 model which is the last year the quad was made. I don't know if they made some motor adjustments in 1990 but I think that by then most of the bugs were worked out.
It was not a resto rather it was simply clean when I bought it and I have kept it clean. I actually did buy all new factory plastic and stickers 3 months ago...so it looks better than the pics.
I should get some new pics one of these days.
Thanks...those Quadzilla's if running correctly are very very fast! Most of the time they are running badly. Proof of this point is that I rode a few when I went looking to buy one and my first impression was "wow I thought these things were fast". Well when I first rode this one I thought...'Wow this thing hauls ass".

**Edited by Howdy ** The question is a valid question. And should be addressed as such.
Or how about this has it ever accurred to you that we don't have trees and and woods in this area. These dune parks we talk about have trails, but the trails are surrounded by plum thickets and prickly pear cactus, it makes crashing a lovely experience. The dunes are just the open area of the park, myself I prefer to ride the trails and hope one of my friends crash so I can take a picture of him all jacked up, and yes with friends like mine you don't need enemies. ;)

Let me start off here: Don't knock what you haven't tried. ;) Not everyone will have the ability to be able to ride in all the terrians ( dunes, woods, hills, ect ). Not everyone lives close to a woods where they can ride. Just as not everyone lives close to the dunes / sand. I don't think it's fair to assume that some some people are afraid of trails and woods. They just might not have the ability to ride on such terrain. They might preffer dunes and that is what they live for. To each their own. ;)
Also, Not everyone will like all the different terrains available either. Some like mud and some don't. Some like sand/dunes some don't. Some like hills, woods, trails other don't. And then you have some that like every type of Terrain. Each Terrain has it's good points and bad points. It's all about what you like. If your happy riding laps around your house then by all means do your laps. ;)
I hope that answers your question and settles your mind. lol

People tend to ride whats avialable, and seek out, what they dont have at home. I am so thankful to have been able to experience everything from mud, rocks, hillclimbs, trees, water, gravel pits in the east, to the deserts and dunes in southern Ca., to ride large and small ATV rallys, to compete cross country racing, motocross, and The Blackwater 100, riding bikes, trikes, and quads long enough to be competant on all. To learn the advantages and disadvantges of each amchine under different conditions. Sure I love mud and woods riding, probably the best, but we just took our annual 5 day trip to the Badlands (7 hours each way) just to ride in some dunes, because we dont have any at home.
All I can say, is ride every machine you can get your hands on, and ride every terrain you can gain access to!!!! Sure, youll end up with your favorite riding conditions, and your favorite machines, but if you limit yourself to one type machine, in one riding place, sadly, youll probably never realize how much joy youve denied yourself. Dune riders probably have more land available to them for riding than anybody else, so dont feel sorry for them, unless they have an opportunity for some midwestern mud and hills and voluntarily reject it, and Id say the same to the woods riders who get a chance to "dune it". Ride it all at least once!!!!
The only ones I feel sorry for are the "which is faster?, whats the top speed?, will a X beat a Z?" armchair drag racers who never get beyond a message board and a flat, straight stretch of hard pack.
When the scorecard of life is added up, whoever has the most "been there, done that's" wins!!!

... back to the original post ..... I'm drooling over your bikes - you did such a good job on that Z and the LT-KR is the nicest Ive ever laid eyes on.

Thanks for the compliments on the bikes....
Regarding being scared to ride in the woods..actually I have woods all over around me. I have to drive out about 8 hours to ride in the dunes. I do ride in the woods, mud, gravel, BUT not with these bikes...that in my opinion would be pointless.
I can go buy a newer bike and rag it out in the mud and in the brush...why should I do this to these clean bikes?? For example, I also ride motocross and take my YZ400F to the track and the woods and I ride it fast as trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro!
I ain't afraid of no woods....but I am afraid of scratching the fenders on the Quadzilla and the Tri Z....OUCH!!!

... Oh ... ya, you know what, I didnt see that little ding in your original rim, right under the original Dunlap front tire with the wiskers still on it with the original air still in her ... I change my mind, your quad sucks, what was I thinking ....... get real.

Regarding the ding in the front wheel....yes the original owner did that...I have no idea how. I never asked him...I was just so impressed with the rest of the quad.
I have not finished the Tri Z yet. I still have to go over everything (connections, bolts, fuel lines, etc.) and then start her up.
Can you believe it I have been almost done with the project for 3 months and have started it yet?? I just got busy with some other things....I believe my biggest concern was whether I would have enought parts!! Now that I know everything is there...I am not that worried about it anymore.
Regarding the vibration...I have never even felt vibration on the LT500. IT has a counter balancer which all but eliminates virbration. I would like to get a 250R one day but I am not in a hurry.

Hey darius is your tri-z seat ripped? its either ripped or just the light reflecting off of it.

oh wow,.. I thought the zillas were just like the 250 quadracers.. no counter balancer. Maybe just the older ones didnt have them. I know the later model 250 quadracers had powervalves, not sure if the zillas did.

I had an 88 LT500, and it was great, but it seemed like I had to fix it after every ride. Always something with that bike. It used to vibrate so much that the cylinder bolts tore the threads out.
