did honda change the axle during the 185s production? reason i ask is that i bought a bike that was in pieces in boxes a year ago and i'm just now putting it together. there weren't any of the large axle retaining nuts in the boxes so i went to rob some out of my parts bin. they don't fit, won't fit over the end of the axle. in some of my spare parts, i have a complete rear axle and hub from an unknown year 185. the retaining nuts fit on it. it appears that the axle that came with the bike in the boxes is beefier. did they change the axles and axle nuts at some point? if not, what would this be an axle from?

The only difference if I remember correctly in 83, honda went to the internal cushions on the axle hub. 82 and earlier directly bolted to the hub with no cushions.

Also, forgot to mention that the sprocket on the axle that came in the box has a wider bolt pattern than the one I had in my parts pile.

could be off an S or a 200E. the axle on my E was real beefy and did not remotely look like the others.

thanks mike. the axle that the nuts won't fit looks like the 1983 and the axle that i took the nuts off of to use looks like the 81/82. unfortunately, i can't find a microfiche that shows the axle retaining nut on them to see if they are the same part number
