Picked up this ugly lil critter today. Im thinkin slam a lifan 125 in it and call it the party-bomber. Its your typical POS that has been used and abused relentlessly. As you can see the forks were heated and bent back, Im gonna assume it was tweeked bad from the worn out front tire, All three are ohtsu, just the front is smoked. Tank is dented with jb along the bottom left seam. Grab bar is mia and the mount has been welded by what appears to be a 3rd graders first attempt, motor has no compression.
WTF was I thinkin

i think 78-83 is a 3 speed down shift pattern, 84 was 4 speed down shift, 85 was 4 speed up shift

You got quite a project there. Bent forks, possibly bent frame. Messed up fork stops. You'll be busy for awhile. Take the number off the engine and plug it into the trike id thread posted on here somewhere, that should tell you for sure. Sometimes the 70s can be a mix and match of all kinds of parts. Good luck with your project. Get cleaning that little monster up.

Update on the rat. Took it apart a lil bit. The no compression is just merely a stuck exh valve. Cyl is in great shape, so is cam, lifters etc. The frame IS bent at the neck. I figured it would be. No biggie, just gonna straighten it and brace it up. Im 250lbs so its gonna need reinforcements anyways. Seeing as how all I can see wrong with the motor is a lil valve work, im just gonna fix it and run it. The forks are pretty much junk, so Ill be in the market for a set. Also the exh was rotted off at the head, so Ill be lookin for an exh also (hint hint)

i have an atc 70 that has the same gas tank stickers on it and its an 83. so i would have to say its an 83 unless the tanks were changed.

Who knows, engines get swapped, fenders, tanks etc....
The numbers on the frame are jh3tbo300dc8176##
Where are the numbers on the motor?

As far as reinforcing the frame, my intentions are to straighten out the neck, get a piece of thick wall tubing that has a 2 inch ID and shave a lil off in a lathe to match the OD of the original frame tube. Cut the tube in half and then run it from the front tank mount to where the frame gets boxed in behind the air filter can and weld it right onto the original frame tube on the top. Theres plenty of room as far as tank clearance. Also gonna plate the rear where the grab bar mount is with some 3/16 and weld on ears for the rear grab bar mounts. Any other suggestions-weak spots on these lil buggers?

It's a 83.
Check behind the shifter for the engine serial number.

No prob dude, were all human, well except for a few inbred tards on here, but thats besides the point!
Just found that the sparkplug hole is stripped; Whats the fix for this? Ive never tried to heli a plug hole before, can I go with a bigger dia plug? Or should I just look for a new empty head and play swap da parts?

put a 88cc kit in it. Thats what deepa and I are doing. So we can race equal machines, someday.... And give it some more snot to pull you around. Mines sitting on the floor waiting for the kit now.

Paul! How you been? We need to get together soon. You still got the crazy schedule goin on? For the price of the big bore, I think the better option is a whole motor. Piranah 140cc complete kit with everything but a clutch perch is 300 to my door.

as far as the weak spots on the frame there are 2 main things that i know of. the main tube bending like a rainbow but it sounds like you have a fix for that and the second thing that comes to mind is the steering stop tab at the bottom of the headset. it usually bends or breaks off leaving you with dents in the tank after turning to far. iv heard of the heli coil working great on the sparkplug hole but i myself just replaced the head. i would also like to put an 88 kit on my 85 but its so hard to spend the cash when you could have a japanese motor for the same price with twice the power. i put the pitster pro 155z in my 84 and it is tons of fun and i havent even broke it in yet. these machines are rediculous fun with never ending options. good luck with your 70 and were here to help!

^^How you like that 155 engine? My friend is going to let me borrow his 140 to see if I like it in the 70. For putzin around and doing wheelies, Im almost thinkin a semi-auto would be better,...I dunno. Im going to atleast get the 70 engine back up to par and then decide what to do from there.

The other R has the top end off. I bought a new piston for the paul turner jug I have for it and had it matched. Got it back from the machine shop and realized that i had bought a long rod piston. I was prob half in the bag when I ordered it. Now I gotta get the correct piston, It pisses me off to have to buy another piston, so I keep putting it off. Anyone got a new .030 piston they wanna swap for a long-rod model?
