Has anyone picked up any size gio motor and tried it in a 70? Will it bolt up? Are they decent?
Around here they sell gio dirtbikes for pretty cheap used, was thinking.... if the motor bolts up?
Anyone?>?

so why post????? you have nothing valuable to add........

it really depends on what you have in mind for the 70,,,,, if its for the kids to play on those motors will last a long time,,,, keep the chain tight so it doesn't come off and trash the stator and you will be happy... if you want to beat it with a big kid on it like i do,,, maybe a lifan would be better.. i have tore down several brands of these chinese bikes,, most of them are owner induced problems ... then a parts supply is hard to find,,, if you don't have a clue...

haha true, but why buy something that u will have a hard time buying parts for thats much worse than the honda engine and will probably be the same amount of money in the long run, thats what i was going at more than saying the engine itself is bad. i am just not a fan of cheap engines, always ending up breaking and parts are hard to find and with the repairs it costs money and when it comes down to it why not just get the honda engine

Im Gonna have to back up Mr.RPM on this one dude...for a temp fix it'll work, but Gio's in the long run are bad engines, they dont last aslong as youd think, my friend had a brand new gio 125, the engine broke within the first week, and it wasnt his fault he never rode it hard. Lifan are usually what people crank into those, plus...they are almost the same price...u want a really good engine go for the CT70 engine...those things take a shite kickin...not sure if they bolt up tho?....

the parts supply for these engines is great,, way better than honda by far too.... i have several and i have never had a single problem either,,, hell mine pull paddle tires in the dunes all year long too... and they build WAY MORE POWER THAN ANY HONDA EVER DID... I HAVE BEEN TO THE TOP OF THE HIGHEST DUNES AT GLAMIS ON MY LIFAN POWERED 70. to get a honda engine to produce as much power as some of these new engines...... you could spend $1000 easy... a stock 50cc will only go to 88cc's without a stroker crank $$$$ a 70 not much further,,,,

Also, filling your Honda engine with cheap made in China ebay parts will not make for a very reliable engine either. I'd do a Lifan or pick up an ATC110 or 125 and pirate the engine out of it. Hey, wait a minute, that's what I got my 125M for. :)

i had a pitster pro 125, came stock with a gpx chinese engine and let me tell you that thing was top knotch. the kick starter lost a tooth but other than that it hauled. you can buy am inner rotor it for it to make it rev like a crf250r

lifans are the only chinese engine i will approve. it was just my opinion is all. and ebay has tons of NOS parts and used but still in great condition parts all from honda.

the Honda 110 125 swap in , but it is not a bolt up some fab work needs to be done and they are a little longer so front fender clearance is tight. I am working on one now but I am also stretching the frame 2"s. The Lifans are a good motor, bolt in and run great for less then rebuilding a stock 70 motor. To do the power upgrades on a 70 motor would cost way more, it would be cool and I may do one someday but when you can buy a Lifan complete with carb and CDI for under 400.00 and add the DR ATV pullstart and your done and WAY more power then the 70 motor. THis sould not be a debate thread just a post of info from people that have experience. You can always hop over to planet minis and see waht they are doing with those"JUNK CHINESE" engines in the pit bikes.

Here is a pic of one with a Honda 125 installed http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=200509

Everybody that has owned a Chinese engine in this thread overwhelmingly approves of them, while everybody that has only heard about them disapproves lol

I'm just looking for a faster manual clutch engine with electric start. Gio's are everywhere here while I have yet to see a Lifans. Perhaps I will just keep searching for one. But my 70 motor works as it is, but I also have a mini Z50 with a motor that grenaded itself beyond repair that needs a motor.
Thxs for the input folks.

i just did a pitster pro 155z in my 70 and im still breaking in the motor, but let me tell you this thing is mean fast and no longer a little kids machine for sure. i also like the honda engines as well...i just wanted something a little more faster. well i guess i should say it turned out alot faster. im thinking about putting a lifan 125 in my other one and keeping one stock. so its up to you with honda or chinese. they both run and are both fun!

OK since China motors seem to be an interesting subject & it apparently takes nothing to swap them into a 70, HOW different are the 70 & 90/110/125m mounts? I really would like to find a Lifan 140 (or similar) to drop onto my 110. After seeing that a 125 will swap into a 70 with tweaking, surely it will work the other way around. What gives? Could new holes be drilled into the frame or a different head mount be fabbed or is it simpler than that? Anyone got better advice than "It will fit if you can get creative." Sorry to hijack this thread...

BTW, if you are wondering about the quality of China motors I got a Loncin motor on a full size Chinese Enduro that I beat mercifully. I haven't had any complaints so far except making sure to re-tighten bolts on the bike occasionally. Always starts up fine (other than being cold-natured), runs great, & pulls me to 65mph. Bike weighs 400 lbs, I weigh 200... give or take, lol. Two thumbs up for Loncin/Lifan motors!

I have a gio 50 in one of our 70's and the engine is around 4 years old. It's getting a little tired now but all of the china parts interchange. I just got a complete top end for under $30 shipped so you can't beat that. The bigger engines had problems with kick starters.

Some of the china engines are a lot better then others. I had a 125 GPX with an inner rotor kit and it rips. I also have a piranha 140 engine that I love too.

Seems like the best quality china engines are the YX, GPX, Piranha, lifan and Pitster pro. If you go to the planet mini website you can find any info you want.
