i know that it is common for the 83-85 200x kicker to slip. my question is....mine was fine until i put a high compression piston in my bike. while i had the head apart i took off the clutch cover so i could fix a leak with a new gasket and i polished it.

was it not slipping before because there wasnt enough compression to make it slip? or could it be something else.

i dont have the know how, nor the tools or the money to split the case and find out :-\ so im hoping its something else.

Unfortunately, the worst thing you can do to an 83-85 is put in a high comp piston, nice and tight like new! It's just too much for allot of the older kicker gears. to deal with...

Were having issues with the "search feature" right now, but there has been allot of info and patches for this.

Some guys are backcutting the gear and some are adding a tougher spring. Unfortunately allot of people don't post updates. I wanna know if it's worked all the time and everytime and what exactly they did......

Apparently all 3 years 83/84 and 85 had updated gears for a fix. It may or may no have been a "Service Bulletin".

There are 2 problems that I see with this all though.

1) If you back cut the gears by hand, it's impossible o get all the 25 teeth to all contact at the same time. It may only be 4 or 6 or 15?? teeth that are contacting on a ny given kick stroke.

2) It's ALL located in the center case :( which isn't a fun job for the average guy... You have to remove the engine, the top end and get right down to the gear box to even ATTEMPT repairing the kicker gears.

G-luck
