at the Dixon R Miler Recreational Area. It was a pretty decent day for riding. Was surprised to see how much snow was still there after the 50 degree days - enough that were snowmobiles too.
We'll definitely be heading back up there. It was nice not to worry about the possibility of a fine.

Never heard of this place. How many miles of trails is there.

I see the little tank is still running. Also I guess you got that kicker fixed? The Dixon R Miller riding area used to be called Pohomoco or something like that. There's about 14 miles of trails or so. Its right across the stree from Pocono raceway. Becareful though, you do need registration and insurance on your bikes to ride there. Its run by the state. I got my big red plated to ride there. Some of the trailr are very rocky, but then there is a logging road that runs through it up to the tower. Its fun for a day.
Nice pics by the way 99gsxr750.

Yeah, I got a kicker from Larry's a few days after we went riding and the stator was replaced under warranty.

The trails were snow covered, but I got the impression it's pretty rocky due to the few areas that weren't snow covered.

If I had known your Big Red was registered, I would've told you we were going.

John

No problem, the more the merrier.

I'm sure we'll try for one more time this month (weather dependent) because they close down from April 1 to Memorial Day weekend.

There's also another area in Buskill we might try too, but it only list 8 miles of trails. I'd like to try Adams and Cumberland counties because it lists 36 miles, that's south central Pa, so it might be too far for you.

Insurance and reg?
Mine are just registered.

You can get it through State Farm for about $20 a year for liability.

riverrat
03-10-2010, 11:19 AM
I will call them. Last time I tried to insure my trikes, the 200x was going to be $200 minimum liability, compared to my 4x4 quad, 2007 which would have been $140 full coverage. My 110 was going to be $120. I said screw that.

riverrat
03-10-2010, 03:57 PM
I just checked with state farm, $51.78 a year for me. Whats funny is, the 110, the 200x, and the 250R are all the same price.

JohnR.
03-10-2010, 05:13 PM
Yup. I used to have insurance on my 350X, it was $70 for the year and my 4x4 would have been the same. I let the insurance lapse but if we put together a ride I'll put it back on one of them. I'll have to do a ride after Memorial Day probably, I'm supposed to do a ride with a local 4x4 club in a week or two so this month is about full. Please keep us posted, I've been eying up Dixon Miller as well as Bushkill since they are both only a 90 minute to 2 hour drive for me. Definitely keep us posted.

They base it on hp. State farm does anyway. Over 50hp, and it goes up.
Progressive basis it on cc's. It was more than double state farms.

99gsxr750
03-10-2010, 11:14 PM
It must be written differenty in Pa, because I know it shouldn't be more than $20-$30 a year. Maybe you should firgure out a way to register them in Pa. :D

IT depends on where you live. When I was living in Queens NY, in 1990, my brand new 1990 Eclipse, allstate wanted $8700 a year. Then I asked Gieco, and they wanted $6700 a year. I could not believe the insurance was so high. I went from a 350hp camaro, to a 135hp eclipse, and I had to pay 10 times as much. So I used my cousins address in Orange county NY (I moved there for legality purposes, lol, cough cough) and my insurance from Gieco was $2500.

They also base your rates now on your credit score, and driving record. I remember when I tried once to switch my car from NY to PA, when I was a kid. I was trying to save $300. I was paying like $900 minimum liability, and in PA, they wanted $600. That was my quote, and when I got the bill, it was $1000. I was pissed. I was like wtf, the agent told me the quote was based on a perfect record. I guess he didn't check my record. I had like 4 points. I asked why it was more the NY, he said that PA, they surcharge more for tickets, because if you get a ticket there, you must be doing something wrong, as there are hardly any cops. Which kind of makes sense, but screwd me. People in NYC get tickets almost daily j/k. but you do get tickets easier in NYC.

That shouldn't matter as it's the DCNR that does ATV registration not the DMV.

The insurance company will ask me for my driver liscense. But I am going to ask anyway. What is the DCNR?

JohnR.
03-11-2010, 09:29 PM
Since we're WAY off topic anyways. I never had to show the insurance company my driver's license for my ATV insurance, you could legitimately have no license and get ATV insurance. You can register your ATV in PA while being a resident of another state (that's exactly what ChrisD does). In other words, you could go and get a PA reg that has your NY address on it. IIRC if your ATV is used mainly in PA you are supposed to get a PA registration for it by law but how are they going to prove it? IMHO its not worth it for the small savings you're going to see but the nice thing is that as an out of state resident you do not have to have a title for the ATV to register it:

I am originally from brooklyn ny. My family has always had a summer home in Beltzville lake area of PA. Considered Lehighton. I bought the place in 2004. I'm sure you guys have herd of the Bethlehem water shed authority. Anyway, I have been riding it my whole life. Your not supposed to but they really don't break your chops. I know every inch of it. If you guys want some good riding thats where it is. You can ride all day and not cross the same path. I've gone from beltzville lake to camelback ski area through the woods. Lots of fun. That where I was riding in the one video that I posted up. I always looking for people to ride with if you guys ever want to come up let me know. My house is surrounded by the watershed. Is the riding too difficult or fast for a little TRX70? And how do you feel about dirt bikes? My buddy's son rides the TRX and he has a KX125.

Any weekend works for me.

denn
03-15-2010, 06:07 PM
Overall a trx 70 might be a bit tough, there are places to cruise, I take my son out there on his tri-zinger and he does ok. But this is just maybe 3 or 4 mile loop of flat fireline road. There are alot of high spped spots and rough spots. It can be kinda rocky too. I don't care about dirtbikes. Thats cool. I'm shooting towards the first weekend in april. Hope thats ok

JohnR.

I'm going to bring this back to the insurance topic for a moment. NY does not allow you to combine MC(dirt or street) and auto policies or ATV and auto policies but apparently they do allow you to combine MC and ATV policies. I had progressive for my 1986 GSXR 750 (minimum liability) and it was $75/year. Adding my 350X and quad to the policy raised it by a whopping $2.00. That's right, $2.00 to add those two vehicles. Tonight, for the heck of it I checked into adding my T3 to the policy and if I did that it would LOWER the price by $2.00. Multiple vehicle discount is a wonderful thing. I guess they haven't had many claims for any of the vehicles I have with them. I'm going to add the T3 to it soon and register that as well, why the heck not?

JohnR.
03-18-2010, 06:51 PM
Yeah, I'm in. I have no problem waiting for guys that are slower than me as long as the guys that are faster than me don't mind waiting for me once in a while. If I bring my X I'll have no problem keeping up, if I bring my 4x4 I may be a little slower but I'll be a valuable tow rig if someone gets stuck in the mud and I'll be able to carry a cooler with some refreshments. Let us know what kind of number you are looking for as far as how many people. I know that when a ride gets too big it becomes more of a hassle than fun trying to keep track of everyone.

Hey sorry guys, i was in brooklyn for the last 3 days. I had worked some crazy hours over the weekend and was 2 tired to drive home. April 17th is fine with me. I would say bring the guns. There is alot of wide open stuff. I usually ride REAL fast and HARD. Im used to it i guess. There are some rough spots with rocks and stuff, i've found that just wheeliing over it works best. I usually like to keep the number around 6-8. It gets tough riding with 2 many cause there are more variations in skill, not to mention that not everyone has a 250 2 stroke or a fast bike for that matter. Still i have no prob waiting for the slower riders. The area we are riding in is surrounded by roads. Meaning if you stay straight long enough you will come to a road. We will probally cross 1 or 2 roads. Its good that way. Its kinda like a panic azmuith on a compass. I live in a private community where you are allowed to ride atvs on the road. Just not like an animal. Lets get a list of who and what posted up here so we can get set. I'll get you guys my address so you can mapquest it and plan your time. ttyl

Sorry guys, was do the crazy work thing again. The bikes don't have to be registered to ride in the watershed. You are really not supposed to ride there, it is posted, but like I said I have been in there for 26 years and have only had 1 run in with a ranger. They really don't break chops. Yes i am still riding on the 2nd. I just threw my cylinder back on my Z today and am going to break it in tomorrow. You are more than welcome to come down on the 2nd and join us. As far as the 17th goes, I don't mind if you bring a buddy. The only thing I like to do is try and keep the skill level and bike size/speed pretty close. Otherwise it gets a bit messy. Also like I said I haven't had a problem in there in all this time but its nice to know that if something was to happen that everybody would be able to keep up. This is only cause I plan on going out for the day which can take you pretty far. If you guys want to come back down after the 17th again for a cruise, that would be the best time for like the slower guys with the 110's or 175's. I can keep it local around my house. We plan on meeting at my house and leaving from there. I live in a private community where you can ride the roads. Although I only have about 200 yds from my drive way to the 24,000 acre wonderland. WOW this sucks. I put my f@#&ing Z together and the cylinder base must have been warped. Blew the piece of crap base gasket out. I just dropped my cylinder back off at yamaha to have them cut the base. Machinest comes in on wed. They said he would get right to it. This is going to be a close one. Just in case I have a spare cylinder that is fresh bore to a wiseco piston, i don't have the piston though. So I just called dennis kirk and ordered a wiseco piston kit and some gaskets. What nerve $149 for a damm piston. I'm gonna wait for a deal on ebay to come along, buy it and return it to dennis kirk. Crooks!! Anyway, it will be here on wed. If i have to use the wiseco i hope i can get it broken in by fri. I started up the X today and i think my CDI went bad. Talk about trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro luck. I am more pissed that i paid $72 for a head gasket and in order to cut the base they have to take it apart. Either way guys i will be riding on fri even if i have to take my kids zinger. Oldtime3wheeler, you can bring a friend, thats cool. I'll pm you my address. Anyway, I hope this all works out. Dennis

I'll be at Tom's around 7:30 AM. Load his stuff on my trailer, grab some grub and roll out. Should be about an hour from Tom's place, around 9:00 or so. I'm all fueled/oiled/aired and ready to rip! Can't wait, weather is going to be perfect!

Today was perfect for riding. Thanks again Denn for letting us come to your place and showing us around. It was a very fast paced ride. Ran the bikes wide open or close to it all day. Surprised my old x held up lol. Im starting to feel it now though.
It was great to meet and ride with 2 more members. Denn and Mucaria87 it was great riding with you guys.
Couple pics I took. These were taken the few times we werent riding. The last 2 are at the local watering hole were Denn's buddy met up with us.

It sucks that I missed this one. It sounds like exactly my type of day, some fast riding finished off with a cold one at the bar with my trike outside. :) I can't wait to get out there in two weeks.

I want to thank everyone for coming out to ride. I had an awsome time. Its been a while since I rode like that and it felt good to get back in the action. It was a fast paced ride and i dont know about you guys but I kinda feel it a liitle today in my arms. The top of my forearm is bruised from hitting that branch when we went up that real ROCKY hill (a little bit rocky):)) I had a lot of fun and it was great to meet you guys. Next time I'll get some burgers and dogs and such and we can have a cookout after the ride to go along with the beer. I totally forgot about my headlight yeaterday. I guess i have to go back to the bar and get it today:))

Denn,

Thanks for the great ride, it sure was fast. The old SX was rung out all day but faired very well (better than me). The terrain and scenery (that went by fast) was amazing. It was nice to meet you and Mucaria87. I would deffinitely be in for an upcoming ride. For the guys going on the 17th, stick to Denn like glue (he's wired for sound---but in a good way!). Thanks again for the bitchin' ride.

I can't wait for the 17th. The parts are in to rebuild the 350x's brakes but it sounds like I won't need no stinking brakes. lol! There is nothing better than bonsai runs through the woods except maybe taking that 5 minute break for a beer along the way.

I was checking over my x today from Friday's ride. Turns out I just didnt blow my crush rings like I thought. I actually broke my header pipe. Oh well, now I will have to either use a stock header or buy another aftermarket header.

Tom,

Get me that head pipe and I'll get my buddy to TIG it up. I'm sure it fixable. Maybe even lenghten it a little further into the slip joint too.

Thanks for the compliments Denn. Nope she's still dirty (yard work got in the way). I'll get her back to spotless tomorrow, I built it to ride it!! I just wish she had one more gear, 6 speed would be rightous in that thing, but runnin 20" tires doesn't help the top end either.

I hear ya Dan, I could use one more gear myself. I'm always trying to shift again in the straights. Damm 5 speed. The 86 Z was a 6 speed and I have 3 of those gearboxes. I might swap it out before the next ride. I'm not completely broke yet:))

Mike we have to go riding soon.

Yeah I'm up for a ride, just haven't had any free time. The past four or so weekends have been spent... at my sister's wedding, at my wife's grandfather's funeral, at the vet becaise my dog tore his acl, and Easter dinner with my family. The little free time I've had has been spent putting one of my cars back together.
Maybe in May we can get a ride going.
