View Full Version : Rasor Road OHV Area (near Baker, CA.)

Dammit!

GPS: 35.079390, -116.157932 (location of camp site for the Southwest Trike Rally)

Directions: Search Google Maps for "Rasor Road Baker CA". Take the I-15 to Rasor Road. When entering the gas station, there's a dirt road to your left. That road enters the OHV area. Camp pretty much wherever you want. Be aware that the "big trees" (you'll know them when you see them) are actually private property. If you choose to camp there, clean up after yourselves even more so than your normally would. Take out MORE than you brought in (regardless of where you camp really).

Rules: In all the times I've been there, I have never seen a Ranger except when one was responding to a fatal accident. I'm pretty sure all OHV areas in CA require registration for CA residents. Not sure about non-residents. No glass containers. Helmets are required. The area is EXTREMELY remote with no services (emergency or otherwise).

Review: A great mix of desert riding with some dunes thrown in for good measure. There's the long wash at Afton Canyon, the "half pipe" and many oddities to be found such as hundred year old grave sites and miners cabins. You might even run into a hidden monument for one of our late members, Mike "Rex Karz" Patterson.

Beware of the critters. Sidewinders can pop up right out of nowhere. Coyotes will steal your food if it's not secured. All in all though it's one of my favorite locations.
