I recently got this bike, and was told it was an 89 Honda xr200. I'm not sure it is, and I've looked fir the serial tag but it's been taken off. It has dual pipes coming out of the cylinder(s), going into one silencer,it has five speeds (1 down 4 up). Is there anything in particular that would tell me it was or wasn't an xr200? I need a few parts for it and don't want to order the wrong ones, and I don't know much about dirtbikes.

i would say this is indeed an xr200 because of the tank and rfvc motor. if you need parts let me know what you need.

I though they had the same motors as the 200x's? I need a rear sprocket for it.

Looks bigger than 200cc, year sounds right though. some one repainted it though. Same exhaust as my brothers xr 500. Could be any size look for CC's on back of cylinder.

it appears to be a 300 or 500

I see you are rather new, but you did notice that the name of this thread area is "Trikesylvania"? This should be in the bike section.

Sorry about posting in the wrong forum, I never knew there was a bike section here, guess I should pay a little more attention. It looks a lot bigger than the 200cc motors i've seen in the pictures I searched for. I'm going right now to try to look on the back of the cylinder(s). It was definitly repainted, very crappily.

Where on the back of the cylinder would the cc's be located? I also noticed on the left side of the case the shift pattern is not 1 down 4 up, it's a 6 speed, 1 down 5 up. And it is an rfvc motor....

that is a frankenbike. the motor and frame are xr250 but the swingarm and rear brakes are from something newer

The rear brakes dont work, You think maybe its an xr250r? The xr200 dosen't seem to have the same cylinder head as this bike.

Ok, I found on the side of the cylinder and it says 249cm3. So it's a 250. I wish I knew what year

that looks to be an XR250R similar to the XL250R with the 4 vavle RFVC topend, Honda only made that motor a couple of years

Wasn't the only real difference between the xl and xr is that the xl had a headlight?

no the rear sprocket off an xr200 wont fit the 250 they are much different bikes. the 250 is going to be more of a full size bike where as the 200 was more of a beginner or wife bike.
you can find a cheap rear sprocket that will last long here
